When asked to clarify his statement “Stealing is not corruption” during the presidential media chat yesterday evening, president Jonathan said he made the statement quoting the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Dahiru Mustafa, who explained to him that his analysis of corruption cases in Nigeria showed that most of the cases tagged as corruption were theft. President Jonathan said that referring to stealing as corruption minimizes the crime. “Ole (thief in Yoruba) should be called Ole and given that treatment. Let us communicate properly. The word corruption, we have abused it.” GEJ said. .

Not satisfied with President Jonathan’s response, Prof Osinbajo took to his Facebook wall to react.

I think he wasn't completely wrong. He hasa point but enemity won't allow the prof to reason properly.

Thats what "Governmental/Official" corruption means.

If you as a private citizen steal money from your company, you have not committed corruption. At the very least you committed theft, and at the very worst, embezzlement.

If you were Mayor of your city, or even a lowly county(Local Govt) clerk, and you accepted a bribe before carrying out your official duty you have participated in an act that could be classified as "Corruption".

The Professor is right, GEJ is wrong. And you are wrong.

The problem here is you guys don't even know the meaning of the word.

I dont get this ur explanation. Corruption is corruption and stealing is stealing there is nothing like governmental or non governmental corruption or stealing. Adultary and fornication are different even though they are both sins. Corruption and stealing are different legally and in theory though both are criminal acts. Check the nearest dictionary so u stop mixing things up.
