TIPS ON HOW TO BE ONE OF THE BEST STUDENTS IN YOUR DEPARTMENT IN UI

Good morning fellow Uites. Revolutionary Greetings to you all. I am not always comfortable not impacting certain things especially in this opportuned period when we all are awaiting resumption. This is a period you all should gain somethings that you can hold on to when you eventually resume your studies in UI.

You can make a First Class as early as your 100level days. It is not something so difficult because some of us have experienced it too. But "the race is not for the swift", it does not matter how many hours you spend in the Library, or whether you sleep and wake in the library. In UI, some people sleep and wake in KDL (the University Library) yet erosion carries them at the end of the semester, some even get tsunamized. That why in UI, you read to get whatever you score. People who get 70 read to get it, people who score 30 too read to get it. What however makes the difference between the two is what I call the "TIPS" which I will give you below. Like I said, many of us have applied it in UI and it worked and still working for us.

(1) DO NOT MISS CLASSES UNECESSARILY. This is very important. What you hear your lecturer say, you may not find in any textbook. And those are things that will come out in your exams since the lecturer is going to set the questions. Also, by attending classes regularly, you tend to know where the lecturer focus on so much which makes you know where to read for exams so that you will not just major on the minor or minor on the major. Please, do not miss classes unless when inevitably necessary.

(2) BE SURE OF YOURSELF. Fear alone cause failure in a university. When you start panicking even before exam starts, it may weight you down. Also, never say a course is too hard and you will rather settle for a 40 (let my people go), that is the beginning of failure. First Class and 2:1 students always aim for at least a 70 in every course no matter how difficult that course may be. So when you work towards that, if the worst will happen, your can get a 60 which may be okay in certain instances. Also, always have this confidence in you when you are reading that "if my lecturer could know it, why can't I", this helps to boost performance a lot because by so doing, you will not see anything difficult in a course.

(3) READ AS YOU ARE BEING TAUGHT. This is also very important. Do not allow your lecturer to go ahead of you in a course. As you are being taught each topic, read them. This will make your reading during exams look like a mere revision and without stress. But if you pile up your notes, when exams come, they become boring to read because they will look new to you, and they may discourage you to read. I tell you, that is the beginning of failure.

(4) BE FRIEND TO YOUR LECTURERS. This is of uttmost importance. No matter how good your write-up may be, do not forget that your lecturers will determine your final score. So when you tend to maintain a cordial relationship with them, they tend to overlook simple mistakes for you and that helps in your final grading. But if it is the other way round, they will mark you down for every silly mistake which may make your final grading not satisfactory to you. So make a good friend to your lecturers, it is also the quality of a good student.

(5) BE YOURSELF, DON'T COMPROMISE. (Know What Works For You). Don't say because Kunle reads overnight, I want to read overnight too when you know your system does not support that. So also, don't say because your room mates always play around and attend all parties on campus you want to do the same. Our brains are not the same, what it will take the person 30mins to understand, it may take you 2hrs to understand same. So also, don't say because my friend attend library, you too will attend when infact your system does not support going to library. Going to library does not make you the best student. I am a living example, I have never stepped into our University library to read since I resumed UI. Infact, I have never done my library registration since I resumed till now yet I am one of the best students in my class even above people that sleep and wake up in library. On the contrary, some people gain more when they attend library. So the onus is on you to know what works best for you and apply it.

(6) FINALLY, ALWAYS PUT GOD FIRST. This is very important because no matter your efforts, if God does not bless it, it will look like a wasted effort. Pray without ceasing. If you are a Christian, always attend fellowship and if you are a Muslim, do not neglect the Mosque. Once you put God first, then He crowns your effort. Because let me tell you the truth, we make a lot of mistakes in exams that we ourselves might not even notice since it is not all times that we always have the time to cross check all we have written before submitting. So, this is where the grace of God comes in to cover up for our mistakes when the lecturers are marking.

Once you can put these 6 tips into practice as you resume UI, you are on your way to being one of the best students not only in your class or department but in UI generally.
Thank you for reading and thank you in advance as you put them into practice. I pray that you all will make the best result out of UI.

God bless you all

for those in the college of medicine that intend to cross from one dept to the other, physiology students can only cross to mbbs or bds with their normal course registered but must add mat if they wanna cross to pharmacy,if the crossing is to physiotherapy you need to add more courses as registered by a fresh man of physiotherapy. Biochemistry allows you to cross to mbbs, bds, pharmacy, bmls&nursing(might add an extra course which you can also offer in 200 level nursing) but to cross to physiotherapy you will need to see the course advicer before filling your course form.
Human nutrition allows you to cross to mbbs, bds and nursing.
NB-you can't cross from a professional course to another like Mbbs-Bds or Pharmacy-Physiotherapy etc.

I know of people crossing from physiology to medicine very well. Even though I don't know about Physiotherapy to Mbbs and dat is why I used d word "ideally". But I am not a medical student neither am I in any medical related course. So since the other replier is a biochemist, I advice u go by him since he is closer to the college and shud know more about d rules in their college. GOODLUCK

The resumption date remains MARCH 21 for now. No change has been made to the date for now. Like I've always said, if there will be any change in that date, I will immediately bring it to your notice. So, for now, prepare your things against the above stated date. Very soon u will start receiving your accommodation and matric no, nd after this stage payment of school and accommodation fees begin. So be prepared because UI don't give long notice for these stages. The school is in the meeting stage now where decisions are to be taken, once they decide, they swing into action. So, don't be caught unaware. Once again, RESUMPTION REMAINS MARCH 21 AS OF TODAY. ANY FURTHER CHANGE WILL BE DULY COMMUNICATED. Thanks.
