PDP Releases Official Statement On Obasanjo's quit by Quote(op):
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lamented
over the move of Nigeria's former President
Oluesegun Obasanjo, who February 16 dumped
the
party.
OBJ tore his PDP membership card to pieces as
he announced his decision not to stay in politics
any longer. This resulted in many angry
comments.
The secretary of the party's Board of Trustees,
Walid Jibrin, said Obasanjo acted irresponsibly,
his
colleague, Tony Anenih, said the ex President
would not be missed; Ekiti State governor,
Ayodele
Fayoseб even expressed happiness over the
politician's departure saying it was good for the
PDP.
Finally, here comes the official reaction of the
ruling party. In the February 16 press statement
titled "Obasanjo's Exit: 'We Remain Focused' –
PDP", the party expressed sadness over the
development.
See the statement by the PDP spokesman, Olisa
Metuh:
"The leadership Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
has received the news of the decision of former
President Olusegun Obasanjo to withdraw his
membership of our great party. We have also
carefully examined the circumstances and the
reasons adduced for this unfortunate decision.
"While we concede to the inalienable rights of
every citizen to hold opinion and to decide who to
associate with, we are however deeply saddened
that Chief Obasanjo, a revered leader of our party,
our first Presidential flagbearer whom the PDP
offered the platform to rule our nation for eight
years, could decide to abandon this party at this
critical point in time.
"This is especially as Chief Obasanjo, who was
also the Chairman of the highest advisory organ of
the PDP, the Board of Trustees (BoT)
discountenanced all pleas by elders and leaders
of
our great party with regard to his reservations on
certain issues within our fold.
Many Nigerians are still bewildered as to what
manner of provocation could have led a former
President to lose his composure and go to the
extent of tearing the membership card of the party
that he once led.
"Indeed, the PDP is hugely at loss as to how the
decision and action of the former President who
had enjoyed the benefits of being elected to the
highest position of leadership will assist in
deepening our democracy and stabilizing the
polity.
"It is our considered opinion that no matter the
provocation, a statesmanly disposition from a
person of Chief Obasanjo's status could have
encouraged our citizens and help in stabilizing
system.
"We believe however, that what this country needs
now is patriotic actions that engender national
unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence of our
people irrespective of political, ethnic and
religious
persuasions.
"The overall interest of our nation and wellbeing of
our citizens must remain paramount and above all
personal and group interests.
"Finally, we direct all our members across the
country to remain focused on our campaigns and
not to be distracted on this issue. With an array of
credible candidates led by our Presidential
flagbearer, President Goodluck Jonathan, we are
sure that we will emerge victorious come March
28
and April 11, 2015 general elections."
It is also worth mentioning that hours after
Obasanjo had made public his decision, the Ogun
State chapter of the PDP announced the expulsion
of the politician from the party.

The PDP response shows civility.
Re: PDP Releases Official Statement On Obasanjo's quit by Samunique(m):
It's the right of anybody to belong or quit any association, but the manner by which OBJ quited was very rediculous for the person of his calibre in the party that twice helped him to attain the greatest hight in nigeria's political climate.

Seriously OBJ and GRATITUDE are word and opposite, " show me an ungrateful person, i will show u OBJ". Maybe he has forgotten how he was brought out of the prison and PDP gave an Ex-prisoner a mandate to rule Nigeria for good eight years. Yes i know some Agents of backward, uncomprehensive and undefined CHANGE will make him their heroe today and sing his praise, but believe me, LIFE HAS A WAY OF REWARDING AN INGRATE LIKE OBJ!!!!

No matter the dept of the provocation as an elderstateman, he didn't need to tear his membership card openly, that's very degrading, rediculous and a bad example from The man who should be a role model for the up coming politicians!

What a sad end !!!!

Most people don't understand the reason why Obj is at loggerheads with the leadership of his former party.

Two names:
Sambo Dasuki (NSA) former ADC to Babangida when he was a president
Aliyu Gusau (Defence Minister) former ADC to Babangida when he was Chief of Army Staff

The above names are loyalist of IBB who did not campaign for Jonathan in 2011 unlike OBJ who shared the podium with the president a couple of times in the 2011 elections. Now if we are to go back on obj's book (my watch) Obj told us how his loyalist were no where to be found in Jona's cabinet. If I'm Obj I would feal thesame way.

When the five PDP governor defected to APC, PDP said they are not relevant, today they regretted to have lost them. Obasanjo case won't be different, watch as PDP will channel all their energy in the next 5 weeks on obasanjo trying to calm him down and before they know it, APC is in aso rock.

Jonathan failed to conduct PDP primary, because he knows he is not popular within his party if he can not win a free and fair primary how can he win general election in nigeria? Goodluck jonathan is a bad product

A blessing to PDP.
Just when He knows he has lost touch wit relevance
Let the virus go to APC, sure he'll fit in there better as destruction is their agenda.

Obasanjo actually made the right move, wishing him all the best in all his endeavours!
This is a big blow on PDP and advantage APC. OBJ is a respected elder in the south west, his resignation as PDP member would bolster many support 4 APC in the southwest.

Obj is just a selfish trouble maker, because GEJ did not dance to his selfish demands he becomes a nuisance talking carelessly and writing cheap books.
imagine a man who cannot even win election in his ward is disturbing the polity. It's just out of respect that the PDP has been tolerating his anti party activities. Enough is Enough. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

It's sad to see OBJ leave this way. The manner he left, shows that he was frustrated out of the PDP. Guess what, Winners never quit. Cowards are known to chicken out in the face of challenges. OBJ was a brave man, I think age has really caught up with him hence this uncommon behavior.

PDP on and off line has always shown a class civility and maturity.

Unlike the other party which would have called Obasanjo names.

This diplomatic approach to matters in the face of provocation is what endears PDP to me.

GBAM!!!

This how politics should be, and not the other way round of name calling and mudslinging, they should wish OBJ goodluck in his political dealings...

OBJ's body language said it all, i just hope he is not betting on the wrong horse, you don't make decisions like this during a period like this, it might end up been suicidal...IMO
