JUMIA: THE 'OUT OF STOCK SCAM' by logi(op): 1:19pm On Feb 25, 2015
A Nairalander complains about JUMIA to Consumer Protection Council & Public Complaints Commission:

Good day,

I would like to lodge a formal complaint against Jumia.
I paid for an item (A Prag inverter with order number 309859356) on the 15th February 2015 as well as delivery of the same Item which they said would take 3-8 days to deliver. The total value for the item and delivery coming to ₦ 33,578.
The next day 16th February, 2015 I got a mail confirming both order and payment from one Gbenga Oluwadare a staff of Jumia.
After 3 days i.e 18th February 2015, I got a mail from another staff Ocholi Aruwa saying the item is not available and as such they would prepare a voucher for the said amount. I replied the mail stating categorically that I wanted a cash refund and not a voucher.
Yet another staff (one Lola Oladeji) contacted me via email asking for my payment/account details used for the transaction which I hurriedly forwarded .
At this point I started suspecting foul play and I contacted their customer service center where it was confirmed that my order and payment was received and was being processed and I would receive value as soon as possible.
I got another mail on 20Th February 2015 stating from one Topman Jefferson acknowledging that my bank details have been received and forwarded to the Jumia finance department for refund.
Since this mail was received I have called the Jumia Customer Service Center severally requesting for a status update on my refund to no avail. A Customer service agent Mercy Etukudor at the Lagos call center assured me the refund would be effected yesterday 23rd February 2015. I did not get a credit alert from Jumia for the amount in question.
This morning I called again to find out why the refund was not effected as promised and customer service agent I spoke with one Ifeanyi Osoture also of the Lagos call center said and I quote “… it is not our duty to worry about customers’ refund” .
At this point I would like to:

· Protest what appears to be Jumia’s fraudulent scheme to acquire unsuspecting customers’ funds over a period of time while carrying out whatever business it is with such funds.

· An insensitivity and total lack of empathy on the path of the company and its staff as to customers’ plight; If a staff who is supposed to be a representative of Jumia outrightly spells out how customers’ refund is not their duty then it leaves a lot of questions about the organization’s credibility.

· Seek intervention and formal action against Jumia to help curb this trend and protect other prospective customers from being caught up in Jumia’s web of deception.

· Seek interest on the total amount paid for the number of days it has been in Jumia’s custody

I look forward to your intervention and would gladly oblige any mails to assist clarify and rectify the situation on ground.

Yours faithfully,

as in....you should have just chosen pay on delivery...nevertheless..if your story is true, then Jumia needs to be spanked.

It was her first time to buy on Jumia. She assumed it would be like Amazon, Ebay and many other websites who take Buyer Protection seriously. She now knows better obviously.

Jumia should not display Out of Stock Items, it is appalling.
