These customs and immigration people are very wicked. Our society needs to be purged, especially these men in uniform.
You need to see What they do to Nigerians traveling out for the first time.
WHEN they saw my virgin passport, they went on to act series of very annoying films.
Because I didn't buy PTA due to the rate, I told them I had my money on my card. Besides, my relation had travelled ahead of me and was going to pick me up at the airport.

They went on to ask if I had my 'authorisation to travel ' from my workplace. Wheres my hotel reservation. That I should go and print my statement. How do they know I'm not deserting my workplace (like say e concern them). Bla bla bla.

All was in a bid to extract money from me. Before all these, on sighting my passport, they had referred me to an officer in one nook like that, stationed to fleece innocent first timers like me of cash.

When they saw their ploy wasn't working, they now held on to the news that I didn't have PTA and said it was against the policy.

I have to write a statement about her, one rotund 'oga' announced. She has to go to the investigation room.

So I stood there eying them angrily. Watching as he scribbled words on paper.
One of them came close to me. "Ha, if you see all the young girls detained in the investigation room, all crying, he whispered conspiratorially.

He Then stared at me with a 'you don't wanna go there' look and walked away.

Through all that was happening, I held my backpack tightly, before they would slip something incriminating inside.

Everyone seems to blame custom without blaming the driver for not stopping. That is the problem with us Nigerians. We all blame the govt for everything. Why carry contraband items when you know they are illegal? After we keep shouting our politicians are corrupt.
They women were simply greedy. They know how much profits they will make from selling the okrika clothes. They should have stopped and sorted the custom guyz. If they were caught, they would still have found a way of getting back their seized goods.

Happens everywhere in the world involving all agencies I know. When you are on a flight from the law， it is temporarily suspended in your case and it doesn't matter whether you contraband goods or illegal weapons death for a fugitive is a very real possibility. The customs officers will be commended. That is the truth.

By the way. Ramming the fugitive vehicle to disable it is a very legal move to save the lives of innocent road users and bring any chase to a quick end anywhere in the world. No one should refuse to be stopped by law enforcement no matter the sentiments. You may question the intent after stopping but to flee is already a felony offence.

At times when i read through some comments here in nairaland i begin to wonder the claim some people brag that they are educated . The driver refused to stop. If he was carrying humans head in the Car nobody care to know but we quickly blame the Custom.

Everyone wants to blame the customs officials but have forgotten to ask the simple question of "why didn't the driver stop when He was flagged down". Sometimes,Nigerians are the cause of their problems;not necessarily government. With the high rate of insecurity in the country,it would be stupid for any driver not to stop when flagged down any of the various law enforcement agencies. Nigerians should learn to do the right things.

Yet they will berate the same customs as being corrupt when they see contraband goods in the markets. That is why I will always say that Nigeria is the way it is because of the aggregate thinking of its people. Nigeria is corrupt and lawless as it is because the average Nigerian has corrupt and lawless sympathies. As a test, in response to this just view where the blame for this tragedy goes 90 percent to authorities, laws and institutions, 10 percent to the perpetuators. They will say poverty but what causes poverty, crime. They will say government but do the people who demand.justice have clean hands.

I am sad for them but have no sympathies. We cannot continue to live like this and expect this country to change.

This Custom own is becoming another thing. Since they were given gun they have started to kill innocent civilians on daily bases. Last week they killed one little girl who was in their shop, when they started shooting spodically at Sango. What has entered their head?

According to an eyewitness,the deceased ladies were in a hummer bus with a registration number EDO AKA 35 LG carrying their goods known okirika.They were chased by Custom officials from the Federal Operations Unit,Zone A,Ikeja,from a checkpoint in Ijebu Ode after the driver carrying them refused to stop at the checkpoint.While chasing them,the vehicle carrying the officials hit the hummer bus which somersaulted several times into a bush at a location called J3.

Three of the passengers died on the spot while others were severely injured with the driver losing one of his legs.There were no security personnel to assist or convey the corpses to morgue.

Mister. Let the law punish the wrongs of the customs officers but you must make every effort to seperate individuals from institutions and protect institutions so that institutions can protect society. Yes it was a terrible act but should the customs disarm because.of that, no. Should the customs cease to pursue criminals because of this incident, no.

We have not even.touched the stage where authorities are hyperactive for us to complain. We shoukd be demanding a tougher, stronger, bigger and more ethical customs service not the opposite. Are we proud that even tanks and armoured cars are imported by insurgents. No. So what are we saying. Those women were fighting a real economic war against legal, honest, hardworking Nigerians. It is you the people who decided that. The customs are merely trying to express that.

Yea, you are very right. Most of us keep shouting CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE!!! Forgetting the fact that we are part of the problems in this country. We really need to change our mindset on how we do things. That is the difference between the black man and white man. Even if the social amenities we see in the western world are brought here, Nigerians will still abuse the use of them.

Personally, I don't give police bribe on the road because my vehicle papers are complete and original. It's only when u dont have complete papers that you start dodging from police. Last month, I was travelling with my inlaw. We got to a check point and police asked me to pull over. My inlaw said I should continue without stopping. I said no. The worse is that the police will only waste my time. I told him I will rather stop. It will be so bad that I will attempt to run away and some happy trigger police will shoot at me.

What is this one talking sef? Why did they refuse to stop? Where they carrying anything that warranted arrest? These are the questions sensible pple will ask...the customs are there to checkmate the movement of contraband goods or smuggling of dangerous unauthorized weapons accross the border..So sad they lost their lives but they shudnt hv refused to stop or import contraband goods in the 1st place!
