I thought they said GEJ was clueless.

People kept asking about the provision of the law on this recent development.

Where were you guys when Inec refused to register that party but only notified them after the period elapsed. It was on that basis the judgment was ruled in their favour so they have every right as Nigerians to ask for anything so far it is within the possibility.
Now you will know the law works in two ways.
PDP lays fresh ambush against election

There are indications that the national leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party might have perfected a fresh strategy aimed at stalling the March 28 presidential election.

Investigations by our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday and Friday showed that the ruling party was actually the brain behind those who registered Young Democratic Party and that it may use this new party to achieve its objective.

The new party had on Thursday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone the forthcoming general elections.

National Publicity Secretary of YDP, Mr. Ugo Nwofor, said there were only two options available to INEC, saying the commission could either reprint its ballot papers and include the party with a view to accommodate the party’s candidates or shift the election

Shortly after the press briefing, one of the brains behind the YDP was seen at the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja on Thursday evening, where he said he had come to confer with some of its officers.

In a confidential discussion with our correspondent, he said he had come to brief the party on the success of their legal work which made the court to order that the new party be registered.

When our correspondent called him on the telephone on Friday whether they were planning a fresh legal option to compel INEC to comply with the court order, he answered in the affirmative.

According to him, “Recall that I was at the national headquarters of the ruling party in Abuja on Thursday where I met our partners. We are working together to move the nation forward and deepen our renascent democracy.

“We have already fixed the dates for our convention and we would pick our presidential and other candidates for the elections. We expect INEC to give us a chance as stated in the court order.”

However, it was learnt that one of the strategies of the ruling party in connection with the YDP is to head for the court and ask that the presidential election be set aside, by pleading that the party was excluded.

“This is what we would do if President Jonathan loses the elections,” a source at the national headquarters of the party added.

But if the president wins, it was gathered that the party would not show any interest in pursuing any case in the court.

Nwofor, however, said that the party was interested in contesting the election, adding that this was in compliance with Sections 85 and 87 of the electoral Act.

“Because of this, the party has fixed its governorship/House of Assembly and Presidential and National Assembly primaries for March 26 and 27 respectively,” he added.

It was gathered that the party cleverly picked the dates in order to make sure that the election slated for March 28 does not hold or to make it have a legal proof for exclusion.
The party was believed to have known that submission of candidates list for elections expired 60 days to the election.

He described the Wednesday’s judgement as victory for democracy, rule of law and triumph over impunity.
APC=Alarmist people congress has come with their junk article, who on earth will believed this sponsored jumble article from punch apart from gullible APC supporters? you guys should stop this buffon game.

i know people will finger PDP but think about this: why the mistake from INEC i.e ignoring the pol association until the court ruling?

i will blame legal dept of INEC for such a mess.

If INEC followed the law on pol party formation, this wont be the case.

Na wa o.
PDP could not come up with a name that does not link the party to PDP.
YDP = Young Democratic Party
PDP = People's Democratic Party.

A party that cannot even win a Councillor slot wants the whole election shifted.
They plan their for a day to election. Havent they read the part of the INEC guidelines that stipulates deadline for submission of candidates?
This YDP reminds me of a movement that were rooting for Abacha, Youth Earnestly Ask for Abacha.
The worst thing for this party is that it is run by easterners.
We dont love our country!

It is obvious that Obasanjo was RIGHT when he alerted Nigerians to the "schemes" of this Creek Mosquito called Ebelete "Azikiwe" Jonathan.

Jonathan wants to create CHAOS using "ELECTION PROCESS MANIPULATION".... and this will inevitably, lead to UNREST and BLOODSHED! Jonathan wants

*Jonathan will manipulate the Armed forces, especially the Army and Police, to kill innocent Nigerians, if he cannot rig himself into a second term.

It is also noteworthy that, as usual, from the days of Author Nzeribe (under Babangida and Abacha), it is ALWAYS IGBOS that are play the unpatriotic and "prostitute role" of trying to scuttle democracy or anything good in this country.
I am not surprised that it is another faceless IGBO by name "Ugo Nwofor", that is doing the "paid hatchet job" this time around
.

Whether these people are cursed or whether they are like do not know that "cutting-off your nose, just to spite your face, has never improved the face or whole body in anyway"!

But as smart as Jonathan think he is, he would realize albeit lately, that he is just one man,...that the whole Nigeria Armed Forces does not support his machinations, that the whole world is watching him keenly, that History tells us that those leaders that embark on this type of ignoble journey, END UP IN DISGRACE AND ....JAIL/DEATH!

Civilized World:
....... that President Goodluck Jonathan has given up on a plan to preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from using card readers in the elections. That had emerged after another plan, to boost the PDP’s chances by sacking INEC chair Attahiru Jega failed when the United States and the European Union told President Jonathan that he will be sent to the International Criminal Court should his plan to manipulate the elections cause blood-letting in Nigeria.
*The whole world will not sit-by and watch one useless "creek Mosquito" unleash about 170 Million Refugees on Africa and the whole world.
*That is why we have the International Criminal court.... where Laurent Gbagbo is "cooling his heels" at the moment.
*I hope Shepopotamus can survive Nigerian Prison...because that is where she will be incarcerated!
*I hope people like Ugo Nwafor, Obanikoro, Fani Kayode, Fayose, Dokpesi, Edwin Clark, David Mark, Mathew Mbu, e.t.c, are ready to do "long time" in prison cells, if the blood of Nigerians are shed due to the chaos that would result from ELECTION PROCESS MANIPULATIONS?

Ebelete Azikiwe "Badluck" Jonathan should go and listen to the broadcast of Father Mbaka once again.
"Those whom the god's are about to destroy, they would first, make them deaf to any voice of reason.... so that their destruction can be swift!"

This is quite laughable! And at the same time calls for sombre reflection. Why are we so desperate as a people to the extent that some will not will not mind playing the hatchet role of scuttling the general elections. Why is Africa so saddled with many shallow, myopic and desperate looters?

We as a people need to dedicate time to doing a research on this. It is now that elections are about to start after an initial postponement that a faceless group thought it worthwhile to use a legal loophole INEC overlooked to push for a postponement of the elections.

People kindly note that these guys did not challenge the reasons INEC gave for not registering them, they cunningly challenged the non-communication of non-registration after the stipulated 30 days. Govt agencies are ridiculously slow in correspondence due to different bureaucratic bottlenecks. It is this loophole that this irrelevant party wants to now use to destabilise INEC.

Funny enough, there is another angle to this. INEC as everybody expects is supposed to have appealed the judgement immediately and file for a maintenance of status quo until the determination of the appeal. But guess what, INEC claims it is yet to even officially receive the judgement let alone file it's appeal. Does that mean some people are deliberately slowing down the process of communicating the judgement to INEC so as to delay INEC from filing an appeal as quickly as possible?

INEC is yet to get the earlier judgement and the party is already getting ready to go to the courts again to get another order mandating INEC to comply with the earlier judgement.

All these are games actively supported by the PDP underneath to scuttle the elections. But they will all amount to fruitless efforts as the elections will hold as rescheduled. There is nothing the desperate PDP can do about it!

The INEC chairman has already stated it that the constitution is supreme! Though i'm not a lawyer but I think there is a legal provision in respect of a conflict between the constitution and other statutes/judgement that makes the constitution to have priority.

What this imply is that INEC can conveniently ignore this judgement and later claim in court that obeying the judgement will contravene the constitutional requirements for general elections and the May 29th hand over date.

Sir/madam, as much as I respect you and your opinions over the years here....I wish to tell you to shut your gorbs for once about Igbos.

How did you even get to this point of lashing out on Igbos as if they hold the same opinion politically? And assuming all Igbos hold the same opinion, WHO ARE YOU to question a legitimate request from the new party and worst still a court ruling?

Igbo this, Igbo that! Was it Igbos that enlisted Buhari into the Army without certificate?
Was it the Igbo that prevented Jega from registering YDP?
Are your brains no more functional?

Any Igbo who expresses his interest in Jonathan automatically becomes a bigot and therefore deserves some form of bashing....even when such bigotry tendencies has been displayed comfortably by other ethnic groups since Nigeria was founded.

I'm not holding brief for anybody or group of people, but this style of selective talk down will not be tolerated henceforth!

@Topic

There was a reason INEC denied YDM registration and that reason is likely to still stand. It amounts to gross illegality if Inec goes ahead to register them without meeting the standard. Well, except Inec maliciously denied them.

Whichever one it is, I expect Inec to appeal the judgement. I also expect the election to hold as initially dated.

YDM is just hoping either PDP will pay them to continue with the distraction or for Inec to negotiate a better condition for their party in future.
