Shekau’s Allegiance To ISIS Changes Nothing – Nigerian Army. by PhockPhockMan(op): 2:10am On Mar 09, 2015
The Nigerian Army on Sunday said allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria by the wanted leader of the Boko Haram insurgents, Abubakar Shekau, could not safe him.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, in an interview on the Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation monitored in Maiduguri, said the entire nation, especially citizens living in the troubled North-East zone, needed not to be afraid that Shekau’s allegiance to the ISIS terrorist group would mean a renewed reign of terror.

Usman said the military was in control of the situation in the North-East.

Shekau’s allegiance to ISIS was contained in an audio clip posted on his Twitter account on Saturday.

“With or without allegiance to ISIS, the days of Shekau has already been numbered, because all the insurgents’ training camps and hideouts in the affected North-East have been destroyed, while the terrorists have been routed from their camps and hideouts; and those who have escaped our “condone and search operations” in the Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad Basin Areas, are on the run, abandoning their operational vehicles, arms and ammunitions,” Usman said.

He said that the Boko Haram’s allegiance to ISIS was meant to cause more “fears and terror” among Nigerian citizens, because the modus operandi of insurgents, are also similar to the Islamic fundamentalists in some Middle East countries.”

“Shekau’s public allegiance to IS clearly indicates that he may surrender or be killed in the ongoing joint military operations of Nigeria and three neighbouring countries of Chad, Cameroon and Niger,” Usman said.

Meanwhile, a security expert, Max Gbanite, has described the allegiance by Boko Haram to the ISIS as a sign of desperation and an indication that the deadly sect is in the throes of death.

Gbanite, in a telephone interview from the United States on Sunday, said that Boko Haram’s call to ISIS was an attempt to lure northern youths from affluent homes schooling in Malaysia and other places into its fold.

He noted that the deadly sect was seeking for recognition by ISIS because it had lost credibility with Al-Qaeda, which condemned it for abducting the Chibok schoolgirls in April, 2014.

Gbanite said, “Their (Boko Haram) pledge is a desperate attempt to be recognised by ISIS and to entice young northern Nigerians from affluent homes like Ibrahim Uwais and the young Abdulmutallab and others schooling in Malaysia into their fold.

“Already, they have foreign boots from Central African Republic, Chad, Niger and Mali. Federal Government must continue to pound and pound until they are annihilated.”

To nigeria yes but to Niger And Chad No!
Niger and Chad will be caught in the middle if Isis fighters from Libya decide to push south while BH pushes north.
Both nations will have their militaries fighting at opposite ends of their countries thereby making them more vulnerable.

But Nigeria has the problem only in the north and can hence isolate it within the region.

Also if Isis pushes into Chad and Niger with their pool of poverty stricken populace, then the problem would be exacerbated as the tuaregs and other groups join them in droves.

The earlier we sort out BH in naija the better for us. Hit them and hit them hard. No mercy. Let amnesty and co shout but root them out so we can be more prepared for the greater threat from ISis should they put their sights on Chad or Niger.

I dont want to talk about cameroun because it would fall like a pack of cards if chad withdraws its troops to confront a greater ISIS problem.
Their only saving grace would be the proposed AU force.

These Nigerian Army are clowns. If they could not handle him as the leader of a small gang is it now that he has external influence that they think it would be easy? They should call for help if need be.

Dont bet on that bro.
Just as politics makes for strange bedfellows so also does terrorism.
ISIS can comfortably work with BH not because they share a common ideology but because of economic interests.

If ISIS sets its eyes on the oil in the Chad basin, then they will work with BH to acquire it. But once they consolidate their hold on the territory they will turn on BH and decimate them just like what played out in Libya and Syria.

Dont listen to the bullshiit from the western media about ISIS being racist and cant work with BH. It is a red herring they want to sell us to let our guards down and under estimate the threat. If ISIS were racist why do they have black fighters in their midts? Why would they recruit the son of Justice Uwais a Nigerian and why are they calling on fighters from across the globe to align with them?

Our best bet is eternal vigilance and the will to hammer them hard as soon anyone rears its head up.

Nigerian army took Boko Haram's allegiance to the deadly ISIS with pinch of salt while Chad took it with every seriousness and immediately attacked Boko Haram. Your guess is as good as mine. I comment my reserved.

The NA keeps issueing statements recking of pseudo confidence. Thats how their CinC under-rated Boko Haram threat and see where we are today.

Boko-Haram joining ISIS is a real threat and a game changer that should be taken seriously by the NA. In the USA, a potential terrorist is a terrorist, a potential threat is a threat.

I no wan wake up one day see video of my fellow Nigerians being roasted alive by Boko Haram/ISIS members like that Jordan Pilot o.

Jonagoat played politics with bh, kept blaming opposition for his failure, waited till the dying minute to form activity(which is also electioneering gimmick)

Now bh has gone haywire, NA is still releasing statements, the girls are nowhere to be found, boko is still bombing, PDP is still blaming

Bet me GEJ will still laugh this news off as APC's propaganda
only God will save us!!
