i witnessed the event live, but for the sake of doubting thomases let me make use of the version from this source. All the thugs and attackers were putting on Rochas' vests and brandishing APC flags and materials. they kept on chanting war songs in support of rochas as they went on with the bloody attack on innocent citizens and reverend fathers.

"The Imo state gubernatorial debate scheduled for 10:00 am this morning at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral was disrupted by hoodlums who invaded the church premises attacking onlookers that gathered for the event.


The Archbishop, Most Rev. A.J.V Obinna advised onlookers to leave as the debate will be rescheduled and communicated to the public as soon as possible.

The attitude of most Nigerian politicians regarding electioneering in Nigeria is that elections are the operational counterpart of war in which all intrigues, fair or foul are considered legitimate.

Thugs obviously recruited by politicians resorting to extreme profanity and desecrating a place of worship is condemnable. Arrests are yet to be confirmed. It is being speculated that the top contenders for Imo guber seat – PDP and APC guber candidates Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and Governor Rochas Okorocha should be held responsible for anarchy. The commissioner of information had immediately gone on air to exonerate his principal while Hon. Ihedioha is currently on air to criticize governor Okorocha.

Arch. Bishop Obinna reputed for non –partisan politics had organized a maiden edition of the gubernatorial debate in 2011 which fared well. The reason for today’s mayhem is alleged to be the apparent dwindling of the incumbent governor’s popularity.

Politicians are the same everywhere anyway. Today’s anarchy does not vindicate any of the Imo guber candidates who are less popular. You are seriously on Point, information reaching us states that the boys that were apprehended destroying APGA billboards have confessed that the Chief of Staff to Rochas- Jude Ejiogu, from the same community with Archbishop AJV Obinna, mobilized them to cause the pandemonium and destroy the billboards.
