django1:Kelechi Iheanacho played as a midfielder at the last U17 World Cup but at Man City, his role has been changed to an attacker to favor his best talent which is finishing. Coach Manu Garba confirmed that Nacho's best talent is finishing, so Nacho will continue his development as a striker. Note, Nacho lined up as a striker in all games he played for Manchester City. |

@Joseph. I tend to disagree with you on wat u said earlier. Mathew is far better than Nwobodo and Manu knows. And the said super4 he wasnt better than Mathew in the game he played. You can go back and watch the tapes. In today's match, too many poor touches of the ball from him. infact, he lost the ball that led to the first goal by the ivoirians but made it up with an assist. He his playing to the gallery by dressing the ball too much rather than keeping it simple and burn less energy. he lost possession more than any other player on the Nigerian side followed closely by Awoniyi and made the midfield static in the first half. And on alhassan, information i have says dude is not in good form of old and not that he was injured or something but step up his game a bit today. Finally, Musa's crossing needs a lot of improvements. Just not too good. Mustapha's marking too. Needs improvement. on the goalkeeper, poor timing. And kudos to ifeanyi ifeanyi today. he was such a trojan in the middle. |

zoboizee:You're allowed to disagree with me, but I'm telling you that most journalists said that Nwobodo was the best midfielder at the Super 6. He did not just make vital assists, he also scored his share. The details of his exploits in the Super 6 are on this thread, you may want to read them up. And for the record, he was terrible in today's match. Not the Nwobodo I know. On Muazam, he might have lost form but that is due to his injury. His trial in Croatia was cut short because of that and instead of staying back to have the club treat him, he chose to come back home to make himself available, and of course you know how he'd not have gotten the best treatment in the world here. His zeal for quick recovery harmed his progress but with time, I'm sure he'll be back to his best. His touches in this game were not bad. |

Flying Eagles draw with Ivory Coast Nigeria ended their Group A campaign at the Africa Youth Championship in Senegal by playing out a 2-2 draw with Ivory Coast on Sunday. The Flying Eagles, who had already qualified for the semifinals, were looking to finish the group games on a high by winning all their games, but were pegged back by an ambitious Elephanteaux side looking to get into the semis. Coach Garba Manu made four changes to the line-up that beat Congo 4-1 as Olorunleke Ojo continued in goal for the suspended Joshua Enaholo. It seemed the changes affected the rhythm of the team as they couldn't get their bearing in the opening exchanges and it didn't take long before the Ivory Coast went ahead. A cross into Nigeria's box found Ivory Coast striker Anderson Niangbo with acres of space to chose his spot and hit a low drive past Leke Ojo to give the Ivorians the lead in the fourth minute of the game. Ivory Coast dominated most parts of the first half but were pegged back by Nigeria through Christian Pyagbara's cool finish in the 27th minute of the game. Some calamitous goalkeeping errors by Leke Ojo, who looked shaky throughout the game, gifted Ivory Coast the go-ahead goal in the 32nd minute through Chris Bedia as the Ivorians went into the break leading 2-1 and on the cusp of qualifying for New Zealand 2015. Nigeria were much more improved in the second half and had much of the ball, but it took till the 65th minute before Nigeria got back into the game through a well-struck penalty kick awarded to Nigeria. The game ended in a 2-2 draw which meant the Ivory Coast missed out on a ticket for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup as Senegal scored a dramatic late winner in the other group game to beat Congo 4-3 and finish second behind Nigeria in the group. Nigeria will wait to see who will be their opponents when the group stages are completed on Sunday as they will meet the team that places second in Group B in the semi-finals next week. |

Sarr leaves it till late for Senegal Senegal dramatically qualified for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup following a 4-3 triumph over Congo at the Sedar Senghor stadium in Dakar in their last Group A match. The hosts broke the deadlock through an El Hadji Malick Niang strike in the 15th minute but Congo found an equaliser five minutes later through Moise Nkounkou. The Young Lions embarked on a search for a winner and their efforts were rewarded when Ibrahima Wadji found the back of the net in the 38th minute to secure a 2-1 lead at the half time mark. Congo made a strong comeback in the second half and stunned Senegal with goals by Sylvère Ganvoula Mboussy and Christ Bakaki in a space of 10 minutes. Senegalese Sidy Sarr equalised in the 88th minute and clinched the winner in stoppage time. This was the first time Senegal won a game at the Caf Under-20 Africa Youth Championship. Senegal joins Nigeria, Mali and Ghana as Africa's representatives to this year's Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand. Senegal's place was ensured following Nigeria's 2-2 draw with Ivory Coast in Mbour. |

Satellites focused on Mali Midfielder Clifford Aboagye says the Black Satellites are focused on having a good outing against Mali on Sunday. With the team already booking a place at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup and the semifinals of the Africa Under-20 Championship from two wins against South Africa and Zambia, the Granada midfielder says the team’s immediate focus is on beating Mali and not the title which is two games away. “We are here to win every game and our next objective is Mali before we can look at other things,” Aboagye told the Ghana FA media channel. “Our first objective was to qualify for the World Cup and we have done that. Now all our attention is on winning the tournament.” “We are not looking beyond Mali. After Mali, we will look forward to our next opponents.” Aboagye who is playing in his second AYC at the Senegal Championship was adjudged man of the match in Ghana’s second group game against Zambia. |

Tetteh doubtful for Mali clash Black Satellites striker Benjamin Tetteh looks set to miss Sunday’s final group game against Mali. The 17-year-old forward, who has a goal in the on-going Africa Under-20 Championship, is nursing an injury suffered on his knee in the 2-1 win over against Zambia. Ghana was drawing 1-1 with the junior Chipolopolo at the time of his injury but his replacement, Samuel Afful, ended up scoring the match winner. Tetteh watched Saturday’s training session from the sidelines with his right knee heavily strapped as the Black Satellites held their final preparations to face Mali. Both teams have advanced to the semifinals having won their two group games – on six points each. |

MANU: GHANA WILL FIGHT TO AVOID US Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has said he expects Ghana to fight for a result against Mali today so as to avoid his team in the semifinal of the AYC. Ghana are top of Group B on six points and having scored more goals than their West African rivals Mali, who also have six points. They will win the group if they avoided defeat today at the Caroline Faye Stadium in Mbour. “I want to believe both Ghana and Mali will play so as to avoid us in the semifinal on Wednesday,” said coach Manu after his team forced Cote d’Ivoire to a 2-2 draw in Mbour on Saturday. “If I were their coaches, I would do the same team to.” Last month the Flying Eagles played two test matches in Ghana – winning 2-0 in Tema and being forced to a 2-2 draw in Accra by the Black Satellites. Manu blamed defensive errors for the draw with Cote d’Ivoire. “The two goals we let in were due to defensive errors, which should not be on a normal day for us,” he said. |

FLYING EAGLES SCOOP THIRD MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD Flying Eagles defensive midfielder Ifeanyi Ifeanyi was the CAF Man of the Match for the final AYC Group A match against Cote d’Ivoire. The player of Water FC Abuja, who has also featured for Nigeria National League side MFM of Lagos, posted a solid performance in midfield to curtail the attacking surges of the Young Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire. His head injury from the bruising game against Congo and which needed a heavy bandage did not hinder him from playing his best game of the tournament thus far. The Flying Eagles have won all three Man of the Match awards in their group games with striker Taiwo Awoniyi scooping two of these honours against Senegal and Congo. |

FLYING EAGLES SKIPPER: THEY BEGGED ME TO MISS PENALTY Flying Eagles skipper Musa Muhammed said Cote d’Ivoire players begged him to throw away his second-half penalty in Saturday’s final AYC Group A match in Mbour. The penalty goal, the third by the right fullback at Senegal 2015, drew the Flying Eagles level at 2-2 and eventually eliminated the Ivorians from the tournament. “The players including the goalkeeper begged me to miss the penalty, saying we are all champions and we should play for each other,” Musa revealed. “But I remained focused and professional to score the penalty and earn us a draw, which was a sweet revenge for the two losses we suffered at the hands of the Ivorian U17 team two years ago in Morocco. Most of the players from that tournament were also here in Senegal.” He added: “In morocco, we were against both Cote d’Ivoire and the referee. They kicked us so much that at a time (Isaac) Success wanted to be replaced.” Nigeria await the runners-up in Group B, which could either be Mali or Ghana, for Wednesday’s semifinal in Dakar. “I have seen here in Senegal at least six players from the Mali U17 team we played against two years ago in a qualifying match for the 2013 CAF U17 Championship,” said the Flying Eagles star defender. “They are very big and powerful players but we will be ready for them on Wednesday.” Two years ago, the Golden Eaglets led by Musa beat Mali 2-0 in Calabar before the dumped them 3-0 in Bamako in the reverse fixture to qualify for the 2013 U17 Championship. http://africanfootball.com/news/518392/Flying-Eagles-skipper-They-begged-me-to-miss-penalty |

Ghana lose to Mali to finish second Ghana surrendered top spot in Group B at the African Youth Championship after losing 1-0 to new leaders Mali on Sunday in Mbour. The Black Satellites needed a draw to head the pool after two wins against South Africa and Zambia. Head coach Sellas Tetteh made four changes to the starting line-up and the gamble did not pay off. Striker Benjamin Tetteh had recovered from a knee injury but was rested as a precautionary measure. Ghana began the game the brightest with some bright inter change passes between Clifford Aboagye and Prosper Kassim to set up Samuel Afful but the latter fluffed his lines. Mali took a surprise lead when Ichaka Diarra headed in a corner kick after goalkeeper Muntawaliku Siedu failed to punch it away. The second half started with the same tempo with Mali midfield duo of Aboubacar Doumbia and Fousseyni Diabate overpowering Clifford Aboagye and Aseidu Attobrah. The Malians could have put the game beyond doubt on the 80 minute but for a superb save from Ghanaian goalkeeper Seidu who pulled off a good save to deny Hamidou Traore when he was through on goal. Aboagye made a good run into the Malian defense late on but goalkeeper Sory Ibrahimi Traore sniffed off the danger by coolly collecting the cut back. The defeat for Ghana means they finish second in Group B and face Nigeria at the Semi-final stage on Wednesday. Mali will play hosts Senegal in the second semi-final. |

SA U20 avoid wooden spoon A brace from Dumisani Zuma and a hat-trick from Tyroane Sandows saw South Africa U20 avoid the wooden spoon in Group B of the 2015 African Youth Championships after beating Zambia 5-2 at the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor in Dakar on Sunday. The first half started a little slowly with both sides squandering possession in the final third with poor passing and bad decision making. The game sprung into life in the 22nd minute when Tebogo Moerane played Dumisani Zuma into space inside the box and he produced a clinical finish from an acute angle on the left 14-yards out to give South Africa the lead, 1-0. Zambia nearly drew level three minutes later when Patrick Ngoma met a cross from the right but saw his header strike the left-hand post. On the half hour mark Zambia did draw level when Kabelo Seriba turned the ball into his own net after the South African keeper missed a cross from the right and then saw the ball go off the defenders head and into the goal, 1-1. Two minutes later Dumisani Zuma nearly found his second goal when he burst into the box, but saw his low 16-yard shot brilliantly saved by the Zambian keeper. Neither side could add to the scoreline before the break. South Africa started the better of the two sides in the second half and managed to regain the lead in the 57th minute when Tyroane Sandows expertly volleyed home a left wing cross from 12-yards out, 2-1. Six minutes later South Africa doubled their lead when Sandows turned provider when he played Zuma through on goal and he made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 3-1. The match was over as a contest in the 66th minute when Sandows grabbed his second after side-footing a low left wing cross into the back of the net from close range, 4-1. The icing on the cake for SouthAfrica was their fifth goal in the 87th minute when Sandows broke behind the defence and beat the keeper in a one-on-one, 5-1. Zambia did find a consolation goal in the 90th minute courtesy of a strike from Charles Zulu, 5-2. The result sees South Africa finish third in Group B with three points while Zambia finish stone last. |

West Africa rule AYC again The African Youth Championship has again been dominated by teams from West Africa as all four semifinalists are from the sub-region. The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are the record winners of this U20 competition having won it six times and in Senegal they have so far shown they want a seventh championship at this level. After winning their first two group games against hosts Senegal and Congo, they became the first team to qualify for both the U20 World Cup in new Zealand as well as the semifinals of the AYC. Both Ghana and Mali again underscored their consistency at this age-group tournament after they also booked their passage to the last four after two rounds of matches. Both teams saw off Southern African opposition in South Africa and Zambia. Ghana and Mali have been consistent in this competition with the Black satellites becoming the first African team to win the U20 World Cup six years ago in Egypt. Mali have reached the last four of the competition in the last three editions. The last semifinalists were the host nation who bounced back from an opening day loss to Nigeria to beat Congo 4-3 in a most dramatic final group game to go through at the expense of another West African country, Cote d’Ivoire. Unlike in the last two editions, North Africa were conspicuously missing at Senegal 2015 after reigning champions Egypt were eliminated in the qualifiers by surprise team Congo. |

Ifeanyi Matthew returns for AYC semis Flying Eagles midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew will return to action at the AYC in Senegal after he was rested in a final group game against Cote d’Ivoire due to a hamstring injury. A team official said: “Ifeanyi was rested so as not to worsen a hamstring complaint. He will be back for the semifinal on Wednesday.” The FC Hearts attacking midfielder, who is on loan to El Kanemi, has scored two goals and provided three assists as Nigeria qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand in fine style. Enugu Rangers Obinna Nwobodo played in his place against Cote d’Ivoire in a game that ended in a 2-2 draw. Nwobodo provided two assists. First-choice goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo has served out his one-match ban and will also be expected to take his place in goal on Wednesday. Central defender Prince Izu Omego was not risked against Cote d’Ivoire as he was on a booking. His place was taken by Abdulganiyu Saheed on Saturday. |

Flying Eagles, Ghana renew rivalry https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/03/Samm_12_March_2_580x473.jpg Nigeria U20 team, the Flying Eagles, will battle Black Satellites of Ghana on Wednesday for a place in the final of the AYC in Dakar, Senegal. Ghana fell 1-0 to Mali in their last group match on Sunday to set the stage for a renewal of the rivalry between the two West African nations. Nigeria finished top of Group A with seven points from three games, while Ghana finished runners-up in Group B with six points. The second semi-final will be between Group B winners Mali and the hosts, Senegal, who finished second in Group B. Nigeria and Ghana have met five times in this competition, with Ghana having the upper hand winning four of the previous meetings in 1985 (2-1), 1993 (1-0), 1999 (1-0), and 2001 (4-1), while Nigeria won in 2011 (2-1). Last month, both teams clashed in warm-up games ahead of the AYC. The first match in Accra ended in a 2-2 draw, while Nigeria won the second match in Tema 2-0. |

Ghana U20 chief worried about Satellites dip in form Ghana U20 management committee chairman Winfred Osei is concerned about the team’s dip in form at the on-going African Youth Championship. The Black Satellites lost 1-0 to Mali on Sunday to finish second in Group B and set up a semi-final clash against rivals Nigeria. The defeat follows the hard fought come-from-behind 2-1 win over Zambia in the second match last Thursday. Osei is alarmed by the team’s retrogression ahead of the semi-final clash against the Flying Eagles in Dakar. “It is quite disturbing especially when you look at the scale of performance you will realize that in the South Africa game we were up there,” Osei told Joy FM. “Zambia we dipped in form and went down deeper and I’m beginning to question what is actually happening to the team in terms of development because you cannot play so well in your first game and subsequent dip in form “There will be the need to talk to the technical team to find out the way forward. As it is now I’m not seeing my way clear.” Ghana are seeking a fourth African Youth Championship title. |

The 18 - year - old has praised the fighting spirit of the Nigeria Under 20s after they came from behind on two occasions to draw the game with the desperate Ivorian side. “It was a difficult game, but we were prepared for such a clash,” Idowu told cafonline.com. “We came from behind twice, but the main thing was not to lose, which we did. Now, we will focus on the semi-final. “Our first goal was to qualify for the World Cup, which we have already. The second is to win the tournament and finish the job well.” The likes of Panthinaikos and Bordeaux are believed to be keeping tabs on the ex Golden Eaglet at the ongoing African Youth Championship. |
