The Winning Formula By GMB For The Development Of Nigeria's Agricultural Sector by iHaveDecided(op): 1:28pm On Mar 16, 2015
Those who really care about the future of our dear nation will indeed be worried on our over-reliance on crude oil for our national earnings. It is really disappointing that a nation like ours which is blessed with so much land mass, fertile soil, favorable climate, absence of natural disasters and all whatnot has been unable to harness the opportunities in the agricultural sector.

The outgoing administration has said so much about the agricultural sector but not so much has been done. Those with a discerning mind will understand that it has been more talk and less work. The government of Muhammadu Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has promised to bring agriculture back to life. This will in turn help boost the economy through creation of jobs. The incoming government of GMB plans to:

• Modernize the agricultural sector by helping self-subsistence farmers to become medium/large scale farmers
• Pump in adequate funds to the sector so as to help create more agro allied jobs.
• Give out loans to farmers at nominal interest rates for capital investment on medium and commercial scale cash crops.
• Ensure farming becomes an all year round business through a well coordinated integrative irrigation of existing dams and the creation of more dams which will help collect and save over-flooding water nationwide.
• Make sure that our agricultural institutes which are currently in a state of comatose are revived.
• Have veterinary practices nationwide reviewed and then strengthened.
• Guarantee a minimum price for all cash crops and help build and improve storage facilities for agricultural products so that there will be no shortage of food crops all year round.

Enumerated above are some of the brilliant plans which will be executed to help resuscitate our dear agricultural sector which has been in dire need of an awakening. We cannot keep doing thing the same way and keep expecting different results.

CALL TO ACTION
1. Imagine what will become of our dear nation if our oil wells suddenly dry up and we have no contingency plans in place.
2. Take a moment to ponder on the innumerable opportunities which Nigerians will enjoy from a vibrant agricultural sector.
It’s time to stop complaining and grumbling. Rise up, pick your PVC and vote in the right team come March 28th, 2015. Change is inevitable this time around.

Which of these is GEJ not doing? You talk about loans on nominal interest rates when majority of these farmers are of the informal sector, hence unbanked. And for your information GEJ government has built more dams than any single government in the past and food cultivation during dry season has never been this good in Nigeria in a while now. Funny thing is i am more inclined to the auto-industry and i know this little; if a real agriculture specialist reads this your post, the reply will rip your post to shreds.
