I noticed that a lot of states and also the FG give out construction contracts and the work ends up being executed by foreigners. Most times...lebanese, chinese or indians. My question is...if nigerians can construct houses...why dont we have the technical knowledge to construct roads or bridges? What is your take? |

nwanna89:I think the question should be: Who has proven record to get the job done without compromising safety standards and life expectancy? Would you willingly give the contract of a high risk project like 'Niger bridge' for instance to Chukwudi & bros/Oluwole & sons/**** & cows Nigeria ltd. just because you want local content? I think if our local contractors can prove themselves in the small projects they are awarded, they will get bigger contracts. The problem is that they end up delivering low-budget projects that begin to degrade after a few months because of using low-quality materials e.g. roads, buildings, etc. Having said the above, there is the Local content bill that requires a certain percentage of government contracts to be awarded to indigenous companies. Meanwhile, we're getting there - Team Innoson |

Because the average Nigerian will focus his energy on what he will get out of it and to maximize his profit while a foreigner will focus on his home country and company's image abroad. Nigerians have become that way due to back to back bad leadership that has trickled down to all classes of society, including the young. |

alizenbohr:I agree with your point. However, why is it that certain companies that are wholly nigerian owned still use foreigners for its jobs. Why cant arab contractors or RCC, which i believe are wholly nigerian, hire nigerians to do all of these highly skilled roles. I dont think the issue can be the knowledge. We have nigerian geologists, civil engineers, architects and so on... |
