Many of the youngsters on NL wouldn't know that there was a time that there was a national deliberation to change the uninspiring name "Nigeria" - Niger Area, (allegedly coined by Florence Shaw, Lugard's secretary and girl friend who later became Mrs. Lugard) to Shonghai.

After many months of deliberations and debates, the idea was jettisoned and a dumb name coined by an oppressing foreigner became stuck.

Many religions accept that one's name is one's destiny. Hence, many change their names for better deal out of life.

Countries and companies too have undergone name change for better prospects. Myanmar used to be Burma, et.c.

Should Nigeria revert to Shonghai to achieve and attain its fullest potentials and jettison the confusion, bloodshed, corruption/stealing, 419, rituals, hatred and tribalism which have been its hallmark since amalgamation?

Do you have evidence that this was ever discussed ? If yes, by whose govt.

I like the idea but only a de-tribalized Nigeria would accept Shonghai as a name. Sadly enough we aren't.

Regionalism is the best not change of name(baptism)
