CONVERSATION WITH A POLICEMAN You remember me policeman Does my face look familiar We met in kaduna Sometime in December Remember the face you brutalized And left me all traumatized You said you were doing your job I said am returning from work What's my crime i asked In answering you slapped What's my offence I flared In return I slept in cell My wife was at home waiting Children my return expecting It's Christmas eve and they are happy Anxious to hug their lovely daddy I begged to give my wife a call You screamed and said not at all I tried to reach my lawyer You said I'll be facing trial I asked for my right I got blows on my eyes I asked for a little respect You said I am a suspect You took me to the station Far away from my location You left me all in confusion Wondering what's your mission I thought you're to protect me Why are you trying to kill me Police is your friend you said But you are a devil I dared. Where is your humanity I questioned Do you have a family I wondered Is your heart as black as your uniform Or you derive pleasure wrecking freedom Let me go I screamed Pay your dues you fumed You're asking for a bribe Am only trying to help I did nothing I insisted But your laughing only persisted Am not paying you a dime Then you are ready for the cell My cloths you got removed Never been this ashamed My body you dragged Until my liberty you locked The longest night of my life The worst cold of a night I couldn't close my eyes Cos they were all filled with tears Oh how time flies Cos now you're retired I saw you around the corner You were begging for dinner I walked to you and said..
