edogirl2:Madam read very well...The Govt did not wake up to intervene by fiat, it had public hearing and consulted with the DISCOS. I don't know the basis for your complain nor I don't know the relationship between the removal of PMS Subsidy and the cut in electricity tarrif. Consumers complained, Government acted, everyone goes home happy. You don't criticise everything especially when there is nothing to criticise. You can keep paying your old high bills while the rest of Nigeria enjoy the new policy. |

I want to know how they can be sending bills of thousands of naira to residents who havent seen electricity in months? They can slash the bill to the moon, people are still paying for services they dont receive! its bloody ridiculous. My energy provider dare not even charge me an extra 10pence for electricity i havent used. They will end up paying me 1000s of pounds for 'hassling me unnecessarily' |

barcanista:she is right - the gov,t are essentially planning to subsidize electricity, how did they arrive at this solution if they cant subsidize fuel? The relationship between the two is subsidy! There is plenty to criticize here - how exactly are the DISCOS arriving at the figure they bill residents? |

Smart metering is the way forward. The 50% tariff reduction is a ruse!!! The simple truth is we are still overpaying and still getting overcharged Since the sector was privatised and reformed, one of the crucial aspect of that exercise was transparency and that has been largely ignored Nigerians need to know how much they are getting charged for 1kWh, they need to know how much electricity they use and need to pay for what they actually use. |
| Re: BREAKING: Nigerian Government Cuts Electricity Tariff By 50% by Nobody: 4:31pm On Mar 17, 2015 |
queensmith:Where did you see subsidy? In subsidy regime, the government pays a certain percentage/amount on behalf of the public. In this case it isn't so. The high cost of tarrif was due to failure of the Discos to get some revenue, what they do is to pass it to the final consumers. This is what the FG stopped and asked them to do their homework. Please read very well, there isn't subsidy anywhere. You can't pay for subsidy when you never budgetted for it. Uncle/Auntie make you commend the government abeg. |

When the time comes to pay back the borrowed money the govt is spending anyhow, Nigeria's chicke will come home to roost. |

barcanista:Abeg just because you call it a different name doesnt make it a different thing. Intervention fund, subsidy, payout bailout. All the same thing, so long as it's being funded by the government and subsequently the tax payers. The government are pouring 215 billion into the electricity sector this yr alone - if they are demanding they stop passing the losses to customers abeg tell me where will the money eventually come from? |

queensmith:Uncle read my response again... There is no electricity subsidy anywhere. |

ElFenomeno1:Simple Truth? you are paying for nothing. I spend nearly 30k every month on fueling my generators every time PHCN withdraws their stinking light. i use my generators 90% of the time i need electricity, yet PHCN submits their monthly estimated bill of between N24k - N30k every month for electricity the supplied just 4 hours in 3 days to the end of the month ![]() |

voltron:What are you talking about?! Who gives a fu...cking rat as....s about what you spend on your bloody generators? The average citizen in Nigeria is paying for electricity he / she is not using... That is the bloody point Why, because they are not getting charged for what they use but getting charged for estimated and un-metered consumption. Also, the price per unit delivered is excessive! I am speaking from the average citizen's perspective and i know my onions. I am sure some folks can relate here. For your information i work as a consultant for DECC and OFGEM! Go find out. |
