No Civilian President would have done lesser than what Jonathan does(Accepting defeat). All the other presidents who stuck to power in the past have military background, so Jona hasn't done anything spectacular and I don't think he has made any history contrary to the songs many people here are singing.

Now here are my reasons for saying he hasn't made any history:

1. There are international observers everywhere and any nonsense will get him Gbagboed into International prison because they have declared the election as FREE AND FAIR. Remember Charles Taylor, Laurent Gbagbo and Gaddafi. They are all soldiers who are not scared a bit of prison or death, that's why they never stopped fighting. But for GEJ, he is not strong; a civillian like you and I, not ready to languish in prison. Obama himself made allusion to Nigeria election a day before it held, so that is enough to send some sensation of fear into the spine of any African president who has no military background. Jona himself has been made to sign peace treaty twice and also interviewed internationally and made to vow that their would be a credible election.

2. The earlier he agrees with Buhari, the better for him because no matter what he does, BUHARI is ready to suck him dry of the national wealth he has amassed for himself over the years and possibly dump him in prison. You will remember his wife shouting that she wasn't ready to feed her husband in prison. Jonathan is not a strong person at heart, so you should expect him to be scared of prison, unlike the likes of Buhari, Obj and other military converts.
So, calling Buhari on phone isn't a big deal at all, since that would be the last appeal he could do so that his punishment could be lessened. With this, by the time Buhari start crying out loud that Jonathan has done this and that, we the gullible Nigerians will start calling Buhari a wicked man and saying "upon how Jona called this man on phone, yet he is still exposing him that way." That is what we call APPEAL TO PITY(Fallacy)

3. With JEGA's intellectually calm and astute response to Mr Odubebe's bei bei bei, the whole world has already judged the man as a very shrewd and unbiased man, so I don't see any court case or rejection of the election result standing at all. Surely, Jega will defend himself and win in all cases. Also, everyone knows that Jona would have made many advances to Jega in attempts to bribe him; surely JEGA will reveal those advances in court and the story would be 'no story at all.'

4. Jona had to act this way(you all know he is a Nollywood actor) just to buy the apathy of many gullible Nigerians (especially the 'prophet says' and the 'Jona is a gentleman' type). He hasn't done anything well for the past six years, so by gently walking away, he wants to use that to gain last-minute popularity. Well, good luck to him but I ain't buying his ideas.

Give honour to whom its due.
Stepping down or ceding power is a foreign phenomenom in MOST AFRICAN countries.
Alot of people were ready to tear this country down but due to personal interest but Gej was strong willed and determined to make this happen free and fair.

Give honour to whom its due,

Mmm, Nigeria are emotional beings and very gullible! People are now hailing and praising a man who stole their money to the last moment adjusting their country's budget in order to bribe, insult and humiliate his opponents?

Where's honour in the mud sliding he was doing?

Where's honour in lying and denying the abduction pf +200 school girls taken from their school?

Where's honour in bribing every Tom ddick & Harry just to stay in power, that money he wasted will be a shortfall to the incoming government is he going to pay it back?

Where's honour in rigging and intimidating his opponents?

Please do the Mandela name a favour and never call this man " a Mandela" .

I agree with some of your points. GEJ had no choice but to accept defeat. He knows the whole world is watching him and the Americans and British warn him to conduct a free and fair election. If GEJ had his way, he would have sack and replace Jega but he was advice by the Americans not to do so. GEJ used his men to rig elections and intimidate the opposition in Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom so that he can get inflated figures but he was outdone by high votes from kano and other northern cities. I still thank him for accepting defeat so that no lives is lost because there might be violence if he didn't accept defeat

The real question is:
Did he behave in the proper way or the wrong way?

He's a Ph.D holder, hence he knows what it means to be civilized unlike those who had virtually nothing at stake. Talking about 'strength' like we're in a wrestling bout from '1600s'.

Have you ever heard the slogan of the 21st century, INTELLIGENCE OVER BRUTE?? Amaechi thinks him a weakling also.

I know of two reasons. Firstly, the Peace Accord between the main contestants in the presidential election stipulated that.
Secondly, the visit by John Kuffour was to impress on him the need to concede defeat as it was obvious he would lose the election and the International community will sanction Nigeria if he fought it and chaos ensued.

What are about the blood of the Northerners that he neglected to save? When did dogs and baboons blood become more precious than human blood? Especially his own citizens blood?

op, he didn't ''surrender''. He did what all defeated presidential candidates do in civilized democracies - concede defeat and congratulate your opponent.

First off, your post doesnt make alot of sense. Buhari's meaning of dogs and baboons were the hundreds of people that were murdered after he lost the 2011 election.... he didnt mean actual dogs and baboons. He fanned the embers of hate and violence in the north.

Now, apc has spent millions of dollars in rebranding his image and all of a sudden he is a saint.
During my time, serving in the north was a thing of joy.
Now, serving in the north is a nightmare that nobody wants.

Alot of people seem to have forgotten.
When the insurgency started, the northerners called it a regional issue and didnt want military intervention. When they failed to get their act together despite the long rope given to them, a state of emergency was declared.
Jonathan could have handled the issue better though.
Personally, I feel the evils perpetrated by previous northen leaders only came back to visit them.

Lastly, I am glad buhari won this election. I am glad jonathan let proper process take its due course.
Dont forget obj fought for 3rd term.
Dont forget ibb annulled 1993 election
Dont forget abacha was planning to make himself life president.

We have had a history of despotic leaders, Gej has ushered in a new era and we should give him credit for that.
