Who will you give the man of the year award and what are your reasons?

Prof. Jega for being non-partisan, committed and staying focused on the job inspite of many attempted distractions and interferences from powerful power brokers in the ruling party and even the army. The latest is the maturity in the manner in which he handled the show of shame by Orubebe.

Bola Tinubu is the national leader and probably the chief navigator of the APC ship. He is the face of opposition movement in Nigerian politics and have now successfully turned the ACN (which controlled just one state) to a mega party after overseeing the successful merger with other parties. Today, for the first time in the history of democratic development of Nigeria, an opposition party (a new one for that matter) is seizing power from the ruling party. Officially, Nigeria is no longer a one-party state.

In any case, I see Jega handling bigger assignments from the AU or UN. Dude has carved his name in gold forever.

I believe it should be a joint ticket between Jega (for conducting the historic election) and Tinubu (for perfecting the Act of Opposition Politics).

Runner-ups: GMB (for persistence and victory), Amaechi (for confronting the most powerful), Jonathan (for his magnanimity).

I think both can share the man of the year award if there is anything like that, because both are genus in their own right. But I think Jegas job is simple and straight forward-discipline and uprightness will get it done, but Tinubus own requires master piece of statecraft mixed with political dexterity.

I am not too sure about your submission. Jega's job is not the easiest and I definitely didn't envy him. You can imagine the show of shame yesterday at the ICC and not even the security officer had the nerve to bring the former minister to order - simply because he is on the president's side. I bet any other party agent would have been arrested if he tried to stop an election the president was winning. Jega's job pitched him against the commander in chief of the armed forces. He was even alleged to have ignored the president's call!! If that is true, I am not so sure how many could have done that. He remained calmed and focused on the tasked amidst many distractions and covert interference by the supreme powers in this country. Yet he still managed to deliver a free but not completely fair election (he admitted this himself). That is not something we should dismiss as simple. But you are right as regard Tinubu's qualities.

Jega is the man. I respect intellectual capacity and integrity. The Tinubu we know.
But Goodluck Jonathan should be Africa Man of the year.
