He did not want to rig the elections: This is the most basic reason why GEJ lost the elections. As the president and commander in chief of the armed forces, Goodluck Jonathan has every tool to manipulate the elections at his fingertips; from the security to INEC officials and even the politicians. Rather, he chose to stay away from manipulating the electoral process. He gave the INEC total independence and freewill to manage the elections to the best of their ability. Tribalism and religion: Jonathan also failed because of tribalism. The election results are a pure representation of the reality of tribalism in Nigeria. The concept or idea that Nigeria is a united country has been defeated with outcome of these elections. 80 percent of the votes cast in the elections were based on tribal/religious sentiments or for some other selfish reason. Buhari won by a landslide in the northern part of the country while Jonathan won by a landslide in the south east and south south zones. The northern part of the country which is dominated by Hausa/Fulani Muslims were only voting for Buhari because he’s one of them and they would rather have someone of their kit and kin become the president. The people in the south south and south east voted for Goodluck Jonathan because he was closer to them in religion and in tribe. The performance of his administration meant nothing to them. They just wanted one of their own to be president. The people in the south west were divided on who to massively vote for because there were no strong tribal reasons to vote for Buhari or Jonathan. At the end, the number of votes coming from the south south and south east were not enough to match and counter the votes Buhari got from his kinsmen in the north. |

The claim that this election is a victory for Nigerians is nothing but a joke. People in the north are jubilating because one of their own won the election while people in the south south and south east are angry that one of their own lost the election. 1 Like |

Sweetguy25:The Northerners are tribalists after all GEJ did in that region. If GEJ had listened to advice, he would have rigged. Every leader rigs, whether they do well or not. People who say they will vote out APC if they don't perform are in a long thing. You will see magic at work. BTW, I've not heard any explosion  |

YOU CAN NEVER VOTE OUT A NON-PERFORMING ABOKI. its only a southerner that can be voted out based on performance. from the results from Kano and Katsina alone GMB secured 3million gap. The other northern states where used to match what was coming from SS and SE. Gej lost because the 2011 numbers from SS and SE could not be replicated, while the North replicated the 2011 numbers. subtract the total votes GEJ got in 2015 from SS and SE, from the 2011 figures then you have an explanation for the difference between GMB and GEJ totals. Please don't tell me about SW, because even with GNMB winning 5 SW states but with an overall margin of 0.5 million GEJ would still not have lost. |
