In number theory, there is existing argument whether any 3 or 5 (etc) odd numbers can add up to even number.

However, from the 8 odd numbers you presented and if we must sum any 3 to get 30, it appears we would apply a factorial, in this case:

3!+9+15 = 30, where 3!=1x2x3.

I shall come back to look at it again later...

its [5+5] + [5+5] + [5+5]

You were simply asked to fill the boxes not use only ONE number in a box.
All the numbers given are Odd numbers so their sum can never be 30 in anyway but you can simply try to use the numbers in 3 steps (i.e the boxes) and get a sum of 30 and since 5*6 can can have 3 steps to give you the sum of 30.

14... the number times 2 subtracted from previous answer. e.g 7*2=14. 56-- 14 =42. therefore 3*2=6. then 20--6= 14.

that is
8 = 56
7 = 42. ( 56--(7×2))
6 = 30 ( 42--(6×2))
5 = 20. ( 30--(5×2))
3 = 14 ( 20--(3×2))

No.. the answer is 6... 8*7=56, 7*6=42,6*5=30,5*4=20,3*2=6, there are some missing digit which i did not notice earlier

Even + Even = Even
Odd + Even = Odd

These are established laws back in my pry school days(Public school for that matter)

So, Odd + Odd + Odd = Odd + [Odd+ Odd]= Odd + Even = Odd
