PLEASE, READ: THIS IS WHY EVERYBODY WANTS TO GO TO ABUJA.

If you don't understand why those who are in Abuja don't want to return and those who want to go are doing so at all cost, look at this information.

SPECIAL REPORT:
SALARY OF NIGERIAN SENATORS.

After reading through this Special Report, any shred of doubt in the reader's mind that Nigeria is doomed and heading for a headlong, downward plummeting will simply dissipate. The details of the remuneration of an average Nigerian Senator is detailed below:

* Basic Salary (B.S) - N2,484,245.50
* Hardship Allowance (50% of B.S) - N1,242,122.70
* Constituency Allowance (200% of B.S) - N4,968,509.00
* Newspapers Allowance (50% of B.S) - N1,242,122.70
* Wardrobe Allowance (25% of B.S) - N621,061.37
* Recess Allowance (10% of B.S) - N248,424.55
* Accommodation (200% of B.S) - N4,968,509.00
* Utilities (30% of B.S) - N828,081.83
* Domestic Staff (70% of B.S) - N1,863,184.12
* Entertainment (30% of B.S) - N828,081.83
* Personal Assistants (25% of B.S) - N621,061.12
* Vehicle Maintenance Allowance (75% of B.S) - N1,863,184.12
* Leave Allowance (10% of B.S) - N248,424.55
* Severance Gratuity (300% of B.S) - N7,452,736.50
* Car Allowance (400% of B.S) - N9,936,982.00
* TOTAL MONTHLY SALARY = N29,479,749.00 ($181,974.00)
* TOTAL YEARLY SALARY = N29,479,749.00 x 12 = N353,756,988.00 ($2,183,685.00)
* EXCHANGE RATE: $1 = N162

LEGISLATORS PAY WORLDWIDE PER ANNUM
* Britain - $105,400.00
* United States - $174,000.00
* France - $85,900.00
* South Africa - $104,000.00
* Kenya - $74,500.00
* Saudi Arabia - $64,000.00
* Brazil - $157,600.00
* Ghana - $46,500.00

* Malaysia - $25,300.00
* Sweden - $99 300.00
* Sri Lanka - $5,100.00
* Spain - $43,900.00
* Norway - $138,000.00

In terms of lawmakers’ salaries as a ratio of GDP per capita, the gap is even much wider. While the salary of a Nigerian lawmaker is 116 times the country’s GDP per person, that of a British member of parliament is just 2.7 times.

The average salary of Nigerian worker based on the national minimum wage is N18,000.00, So, the yearly salary is N18,000.00 x 12 = N216,000.00 ($1,333.00)
Remember, Yearly Salary of Nigerian Senator = $2,183,685.00.
Proportion: $2,183,685.00/$1,333.00 = 1,638
It will take an average Nigerian worker 1,638 years to earn the yearly salary of a Nigerian Senator.

A member of the house of Representatives earn about N250M annually which above what the president of the United States earn. It very wrong that such amount would be paid in a developing country. That's why there are no developments in:
housing unavailable
Water availability
Airports are in shambles
Hospitals lack equipments and unaffordable
transportation is zero
No jobs created
The list goes on.
ALL OUR COLLECTIVE WEALTH IN THE POCKET OF 0.11% OF THE POPULATION.
"WE HAVE MORE OF RECURRENT EXPENDITURE THAN CAPITAL EXPENDITURE IN OUR BUDGET EVERY YEAR.

Monthly, yearly or otherwise...

I believe that Buhari's election as President will bring drastic changes to lots of sectors in Nigeria.

It is no secret that Nigerian politicians earn a whole lot more than even US politicians, but that is because the system is not well structured yet.

And hey, I hear the naira is beginning to build value again... so those numbers won't matter much soon enough.

@chocolateme do you truly want a change

If yes what we want is a revolution in Nigeria. The one that will see youth taking over the government. A one million march to Abuja can do this...just as we have seen in some countries lately.

Are you ready?

That Basic Salary is PER ANNUM!
Nobody quotes basic salary on a per month basis.
It's preposterous to think of govt paying each senator N29m every month!

Based on figures presented here, it's probable the total monthly emolument for each senator is around N1.8m, which is quite a lot of money still.

That still puts them above UK counterparts, and slightly below US.

The more worrying aspect may be their probable "other sources" of incomes they won't want to make known?!!

This just shows how greedy the elites in this country are. With this wide spread suffering and poverty, dwindling foreign reserves, lack of basic infrastructures, dead and decayed health care system, massive unemployment, so people can still openly suck this nation dry. God please Help my country.
Re: This Is Why Everybody Wants To Be In Abuja, View This Salary Breakdown,. by Teenaira: 9:12am On Apr 07, 2015
Abeg , I will like to be a senator o. Look this is one of the many problems facing Nigeria. What we are practicing now is not politics but lootocracy. Democracy should be a trust relationship where the politician are expected to hold the resources of the country in trust for the benefit of the society. Can we say these ones are serving us ?

Remember that all the political parties are enjoying this loot without exception. Even though the OP claim it is unconfirmed, my brother and sisters their earnings can not be anything far from what the OP is quoting.

There was a time sanusi, that former CBN governor raised this issue and these crooks where almost gunning him down. Remember they were all united in condemning Sanusi without exception.

This is one of the real change that we need and desire. To make Mather worst, most of these people went to the houses to sleep. I hope Nigerians notice this on their television when they cast news. Why won't somebody want to kill to get to Abuja. Nigerians, shine your eyes.

If you're waiting for when Buhari will change $1=N1, hmmmm pray you dont grow grey hairs on your dicck before that will happen. I'm sure Buhari just said that out of ignorance. He perhaps didnt even know what he was saying. Anyways, what should one expect from an illiterate like Buhari? APC....change!

At topic, i learnt Buhari has promised to cut down cost of governance. If he can truly start that from himself then to all those thieves called "legislooters", then even myself will be proud of him. For now, *finger-crossingly waiting*

Hahaha. 'Hardship allowance'. Sure, its a hard life being a Senator. Devious planning, scheming, gun running, lies, sabotage, theft, fraud.., their poor little souls must be panting for righteousness.

Anyway 'change' has come. So by May 30th I expect to see those wages halved. But come to think of it, all the major parties have had representation there. Why has there NEVER been an internal debate, battle over good governance like we have had with the Executive.

Is there a clearer indication that greed has no party logo. Can it be clearer that it is the system not the operators that require 'change'. Is it not apparent that the battle lines are between 'them' and 'us', not them versus them and us versus us. Nigerians, please elevate your thinking.

How I wish the Revenue Allocation Mobilization and Fiscal Commission could adopt the mode of salary of legislators as spelt out in the 1989 Constitution of Ibrahim Babangida. Legislation was on part-time basis. Legislators were career (wo)men who we paid based on the number of time they sat.
