In terms of lawmakers’ salaries as a ratio of GDP per capita, the gap is even much wider. While the salary of a Nigerian lawmaker is 116 times the country’s GDP per person, that of a British member of parliament is just 2.7 times.

The average salary of Nigerian worker based on the national minimum wage is N18,000.00, So, the yearly salary is N18,000.00 x 12 = N216,000.00 ($1,333.00)
Remember, Yearly Salary of Nigerian Senator = $2,183,685.00.
Proportion: $2,183,685.00/$1,333.00 = 1,638
It will take an average Nigerian worker 1,638 years to earn the yearly salary of a Nigerian Senator.

Unconfirmed. But even one quarter of that annual figure is still like 5 times more than that of USA or South Africa.

It will take at least 2 terms of severe pay cut and anti-corruption reforms to reduce the figures to something like that of the US.

Lol. It ain't gonna happen in the next 20 years cheesy. But an exchange rate of N75-N120:$1 will be alright.
Also, its only the RMAFC (Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission) that has the statutory powers to fix the salaries of political office holders. So, it behoves on them to do the needful.

This is what PDP majority in both houses has been doing in the last 16 yrs, syphoning national treasury. After the president sends them annual budget for approval, they inject their own over inside and arm twist the executive to accept it or stall the budget. Dimeji Bankole, David Mark and co.

I hope President-Elect can do the needful sha

Their sickening salaries are determined by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

This can't be correct. You don't take leave bonus every month for instance. Recess allowance isn't taken every month...... That's not to say that they are not overfed. It iڪ possible they earn like 50% of what this report say they earn monthly, which iڪ ridiculously high and milking anyway

I keep telling people that the problem of this country is our Legislators and not the President. Over 70% of our annual budget goes into recurrent expenditure. GEJ tried slashing their allowances, they rejected it. Can GMB do it by appealing to them?

The answer is NO. 70% of our Legislators will kick against it.

This is what I have been saying for years. The corruption killing Nigeria,is in the legislative house of government. All these nonsense started under Obasanjo and it is not something a president can unilaterally cut on his own. It can only be done by the law makers themselves;now, that's where the problem lies.
