With the recent uproar caused by the assertion of the Oba of Lagos over his domain in Lagos, Yorubaland and the response of the ungrateful guests in our lands, I think it is now very germane that the legislatures in all State of Assemblies in the South West Region begin to make laws that will protect the land and heritage of its people. For so long, the Yorubas have been too good for themselves and except we take a hard stance now and draw the line NOW, things will only get more heated as the ungrateful guests from eastern Nigeria have now resorted to insults to perhaps their most hospitable hosts in Nigeria.

This thread is not to rehash what has been discussed or known but to start a conversation that must reach to the highest levels of governments in our regions to enact legislation and laws that prohibit and ultimately forestall the proliferation of locusts in our lands. I will propose some ideas, feel free to add yours and forward to our leaders! If you have links and connections to those that need to see this, please do so ASAP:

1. Land MUST NEVER BE SOLD directly to a NON-Yoruba again! The first step is to stop immediately the signing of C of O's for applicants who cannot prove that they are Yoruba and trace there roots down to their father's compound anywhere in the South West.

2. In the event it becomes mandatory that a business interest requires land to setup a business and applies to the government, land of definite sizes must be allocated and LEASED for terms varying from 5, 10 or maximum of 25 years ONLY!

3. Every land that has been sold in the past without C of O's or expired C of Os anywhere in the geographic South West must be immediately revoked.

4. Henceforth, strict terms of tenancy must be enacted and enforced for all non-Yorubas such that tenants cannot resort to cheating their landlords with late payments, non-payments or unnecessary distractions by way of court cases.

5. Immediate agenda that establishes the communication in Yoruba 100% in every legislative function of the State House of Assemblies in the SW.

6. More coming...add yours!

i thought that legislation would have said non yorubas will not breath air again except when you give it, you are such a daft to have supported this horrendous statement from your Oba. very unfortunate and pathetic, you will in turn destroy your economy that is in high heavens among the cities in Africa. The Oba would have told INEC not to conduct election in Lagos and the install Ambode. So Jimi is now an Igbo man. No amount of intimidation that will deter an Igbo man from doing what he want.It is good for us because we have started telling our people to stop building in Lagos but to go home and build. Your hatred dates back from Awo no new stories, We lost over 2 million from Igbo Nation during the war and after the war Awo gave our parents 20 pounds to start life, so what ever achievement you are seeing today started with 20 pounds so what will be worst of that we have never seen. You guys hate us and we know it, there was a country and you yorubas/hausas will recreate that country and you have are already in the process. If Nigeria should melt in the process, we will achieve that and leave you guys alone.

Every person or group of people have an elastic limit to which their patience can be tested. Those calling the bluff of this movement obviously underestimate the power behind this message - especially if it goes viral. I really have no interest about talking about if eastern Nigeria lost the war and is now in Nigeria. That an errant child or family member gets punished seriously is not an excuse for him to get away with just anything or play by a special set of rules. A law like this will protect everyone equally including the easter region / states so, no one is losing anything here!

I was just thinking about the Niger Content Development programme and wondering if this can be extended to the SW and other regions.
Can there be a legislation that promote consideration for people from the operational areas of all the major "blue-chip" companies i.e the banks, the telcos, discos, manufacturing before considering other indigenes.
For example, the Globacom Branch in Kano should pay more emphasis to recruiting more of people from that regions than others. Similarly, Orient petroleum in Anambra should be compelled to employ more of Igbos than others. Same goes for UBA or Zenith bank in Ibadan will employ more Yourbas than others. Guiness in Benin will employ more of Niger Deltans ETC.

Just thinking aloud grin grin grin

ABSOLUTELY SIR!!!

The question is how do we sensitise our Yoruba population and those going to the state assemblies.
Everything that has a beginning should surely have an end. Most land do not have C of O in Lagos.
Thank God for that one factor.

You are on point bro, I am presently putting the same points together so as to forward it to the appropriate avenues. Let's(Yorubas) come together and present these points to our house of assemblies, local governments and our Obas.

Let's start from here; I am willing and ready to go to any length with this proposal

You must either be very young or just a hot head!
There's this thing called 'Federal Republic of Nigeria'...still to hear of a 'Federal Republic of Yoruba or Oodua'.
If you had been intelligent enuf, you coulda called for a referendum to quit the union that so irks you and causes you so much pain.
Wonder what Adekunle, Awolowo and co will be reminiscing over now...you know...the whole civil war thingy, Ibos been edged out of the national scene, the indigenization decree that gave the SW the clear edge in business and industry, the FCT being in Lagos all those years with the attendant development. Did you ponder on all these?
Its a collective estate dude...and if you want to toe that line it will backfire in geometrical proportions.
Eleko goofed! Accept it and move on.
Atleast the Ibos with all their whinings have accepted the war defeat and moved on. So much so that without fear or prejudice they have ensconced themselves in the lands of the people most responsible for the defeat.
Stop inciting hate...doesn't pay.

You could have done without the insults, at least prove that you are up to it mentally!

I don't have time to educate you on very basic things as I assume you should be an adult to address this topic. That being said, my post stated very clearly State House of Assemblies, not the Senate or National Assembly in Abuja. The State House of Assembly has oversight to legislate or make laws within its own state, not for another state or the national assembly in Abuja.

What is being proposed here is to those lawmakers of states whose constituents (citizens) are asking for laws to protect their heritage and culture, which is what a civilized and forward-looking people would make a first option. After such laws are made and signed into law, any offenders will be punished to the maximum extent prescribed by law.

Failure to make laws to address issues that affect the people will only lead to violence, killings and pogroms which can be avoided. This is what is carried out in the north first before dialogue, but rather than make violence an option, the SW should make these laws now!!

You're really young.
Ever heard about the Land Use Act?
Or OMLs and OPLs?
You can't eat your cake and have it. That level of sovereignty does not exist any more dude...your Oba needs to be read the constitution over again.
Take a tour of all the oil installations in the ND,SS and SE both onshore and offshore...when you're back...revisit your plan.
That's what I meant by Nigeria and Lagos included is a collective estate. Cos I tell ya Oba Akinrutan, Adenuga, Wale Tinubu and co...will not countenance any threat to their oil production licenses!
Cos you just can't legistate against only Igbos in your laws to be passed by your so-called "state legislature"? Or can you?
Learn to reason properly not get emotional over affairs of no significance.
Besides the mere fact that you consider selling land to non-indigenes an impediment to the preservation of your "value and culture" shows the level of ur thinking.
In an age where countries enact immigration laws offering citizenship, tax breaks and easy acquisition of land titles to FOREIGNERS in order to attract investment...here you are towing the typical myopic african line.
If your state law makers fall for that and pass that law...then the Igbos have won...conclusively and totally. It will be tit for tat and the ripple effect will do no one any good.
Who do you think raised the premium on land in Ikoyi, VI, Lekki and environs...your fellow indigenes?
Or u consider swampy and water logged Lagos Island to have any value in itself?
Ur strategic move should be to contain any society and economic disruption while maintaining political control.
And political control means other people finding your landed assets, goods, services and environment attractive.
The land will remain after you're gone.
You don't grow rich by selling only to ya family members.
The Igbo presence in Lagos is an asset...as ur politicians understand clearly. Its fortunate they're not a politically minded people.
Think I've said enough.

Lagos should build markets specifically for products that the ingrates specialise in and allocate same to only indigenous people. Government should go further by ensuring these businesses are financed at low interest rate by government.

That way, you make them non competitive and they can find the way to the erosion ridden land.

Why did you take the pain to write that long epistle?
In a single sentence you could have said something sensible.

You should have said:
All House of Assembly members in the SW are to issue a joint communique that the SW are to secede from Nigeria.

Note: Please remember to slam the door hard when you leave. No one wants you, no one needs you, and no one will miss you.

This is probably long overdue. It shouldn't just be limited to employment opportunities alone. Engaging contractors and sourcing materials should also be included. Globacom, although owned by Adenuga, will have to engage Emeka and sons if it plans to open a regional switch in Aba. Same applies to Dangote with the cement factory in Papalanto. He will have to engage Taju Nigeria enterprises.

I know at first it may sound to some people like institutionalising nepotism, but I think it may just spark a healthy rivalry among the various regions. Who doesn't want MTN to open the next scratch card production facility in its region - especially when you are guaranteed the locals (indigenes) and local contractors and business men will be engaged. If you want to create employment for your people and boost the income for your people and local business men and contractors, the the various regions will do anything to woo companies. Things like tax breaks and other incentives will come in exchange for promoting local content cheesy

More suggestions will be appreciated.

I am yoruba and i dont support this. Most Ibo people i know are even better than some yorubas i know. A man is a Man. A tribe is a tribe. A man should be judged as a man

OP you're on point.
Our SW houses of assembly up until now have only engaged in amassing wealth and having a good time. Its now time to get serious with their job of protecting their constituents.

Let's form pressure groups at all levels and sensitize the average SWner. A brilliant post like this shouldn't end up on nairaland only.

We can make contributions and place them in the national dailies, these so-called Honorables need a wake up call !

And you claim is one Nigeria? why then did your fathers fought to retain the eastern region to be called Nigeria instead of atheist their desired Biafra which existed 5000 years ago before the creation of the zoo called Nigeria? Anyway this an empty treat that can't reach no where,,,let me take it your joking...go and hustle and look for survival instead of wasting time..I think the solution is pay back the amount valued of the property and take it back if you can or Bleep off.

Our fore-fathers thought they were dealing with sane humans that could change for the better overtime but didn't know that no matter how much you clothe a pig, it will always go back to the mud at its earliest opportunity!

Igbos can go and die and create their biafra now if they want, as an individual, they disgust me now so much! This message should be passed till it reaches the appropriate quarters. This flat-heads are animals and should henceforth be treated as such.

You are on point bro, I am presently putting the same points together so as to forward it to the appropriate avenues. Let's(Yorubas) come together and present these points to our house of assemblies, local governments and our Obas.

Let's start from here; I am willing and ready to go to any length with this proposal
