Ymodulus:So If I understand properly you are saying that any tribe that tried to dominate in another man's land should be lynched??...The one thing people tend to forget is that the igbo nation is on people that always tries to be the best in whatever they do regardless of where they are...I was watching a documentary from china on NTA and about Nigerians abroad and It showed a lot of IGBO's over there that owned a lot of companies and even employed chinese citizens to work for them..In that documentary I saw igbo men married to Chinese women and they can even speak the language fluently, In one of the companies,an Igbo man has more than 100 chinese workers working for him.....So what I am trying to say in essense is that igbos are proud people naturally and the amount of hate I;ve seen here is in no way what is obtained in the street.. Here in abj my best friend of ten years is yoruba and I am more than welcome whenever I go to their house...His mom loves me like his own son and my dad loves him too....I am yet to step my foot in lagos but what I am seeing here is making me wonder if he is different from the rest and I can tell that it is not all yorubas that hates igbos..When I was in enugu I saw a lot of hausa men that deals on gold and exchange of dollars living lavishly, driving fancy cars and we see them and appreciate them.. We don't hate on them in any way and we coexist very well with mutual respect that is grounded on the basis that they are law abiding and pay their taxes...You should also go read the reason behind the civil war...Igbos were massacred massively in the north and the then govt did nothing to stop the violence..Not even a public condemnation or call his brothers back to order...You guys should stop this igbo phobia...We don't give f*ck if you buy all the properties in igbo land once you can afford it.. |

whytepawn1:I know no igbo would want to talk about the reason/origin of the massacre in the north. Sentiment apart, reality, Igbos planted the seed that germinated into the massacre and the consistent hatred suffered. The Hausa/Fulani felt betrayed by the "smartness" of the Igbos in attempting to preserve their "statesmen" while the Hausa/Fulani in all "foolishness" killed their own illustrious sons in line with the agreement reached from all sections of the country. Alas! the ibos play the usual smartness and tribalistic tendency. So worst, that the North even allowed Emeka Nzogu to kill the revered Sardauna who brought him up. The north made the sacrifice but igbos betrayed the arrangement. At the end of the coup, it was then cleared that the North had been fooled by the so call "smart" race. With this impression in the heart of Hausa/Fulani, an ending era of hatred, hostility and killing was birthed....and as if history had been erased they cry cry cry cry....... |

OreMI22:With this write-up you are threading a very dangerous path by inciting people to violence. Let me ask you, if what you are insinuating actually happens (God forbid) who do you think will bear the brunt of it, the Yoruba or the Igbo? Never, I repeat, never incite people to violence (which will only reduce you to the level of the Oba you are vilifying), it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good. |

Ymodulus:Lol... I don't believe in insults neither do I believe in violence.... anyway to give you a reply... the web is rich with the history and occurrences that led to the civil war... I only ask that you consider both part of the argument before reaching a conclusion. Though I believe that a lot was and have been left unsaid concerning the war. in essence, the pogrom in the north and other parts and the treatment meted out to ndi Ibo by the then government is and continues to be a bitter pill to swallow. |

valHarrison: help3852:The Nigerian Civil War, between the self-declared secessionist nation of Biafra and the independent nation of Nigeria, began on 30 May 1967 and ended on 12 January 1970. Though there were complex multiple causes, the primary cause, as reflected in a statement made by the Igbo Eastern Military Governor, Lieutenant Colonel Chukumeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, was interethnic domination: "The brutal and planned annihilation of officers of Eastern Nigeria origin had cast serious doubt as to whether they could ever sincerely live together as members of a nation" (Ojiako qtd. by The Daily Independent). To compound the underlying ethnic hostilities, a controversial census in 1963, a disputed postindependence election in 1964, and explosive western regional elections in 1965 worsened hostilities, deepened secessionist agitations and triggered first military coup on 15 January 1966, led by Igbo (eastern region) Major Chukwuma "Kaduna" Nzeogwu. Though Nzeogwu's coup killed Nigerian Prime Minister Tafawa Balewa the Sarduana* of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, no Eastern Igbos were killed, a fact that triggered the accusation that the coup was not political but rather ethnic and that the Igbos of the east were aiming for ethnic domination over north and south [*the Sarduana, a tribalist leader, opposed "emerging cosmopolitan, federal and democratic conscious" epitomized by the "new generation of Northerners" in favor of tribal traditions and structures (Okechukwu Jones Asuzu, The Politics of Being Nigerian)]. Later in 1966, a countercoup led by Igbo Major-General Johnson Umunakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi abolished the federal structure and introduced a unitary system of government in Nigeria: a unitary form has one central decision making power, with decisions communicated to and implemented by regional and local authorities (in comparison, the US is a federalist republic government while the UK is a unitary government). A "revenge coup" on 29 July 1966 resulted in the assassination of Major-General Aguiyi-Ironsi at Ibadan putting an end to his unitary government. - BBC , ENUQoutes |

MugabeRobert:I am not igbo, but the real question is whether an Emire will make such a statement. Respect is reciprocal. The Oba goofed, big deal, sadly he is not the first neither will he be the last to make such inciting or incendiary statements. Even though his position will not allow him apologize, the rest of us should just move on rather than try to justify or condemn what he has said |

OdenigboAroli2:Thats the problem. Face the issue raised above and don't deviate. Accept it or not those few actions above birthed an era and era of hate, hostility and massacre of the Igbos especially in the North. |

Must Chimamanda always take us back to the civil war? Every writeup of hers must make endless reference to a civil war she did not witness. Why drag us back all the time? While we do not support the Oba's call, all other writings that seeks to divide or emphasize our ethnic roots is just as bad. Please allow Nigeria to move on. Thank you. |

Sanchez01:Thank you sooo much. The movie Half of a yellow sun were marred with inconsistency. Reading Chinua's last book you do find out that it was totally uncalled for, filled with lies. I wonder how such a writer should be that biased. Chimanda now toes his path and keep on going biased, now rather than some people seeing this and calling it facts they still deny it. |

skyra:The head of caliphate in the North has made a worst statement and no wave/tension generated. No one dragged him to court. Such comments are unwholesome and wrong but the noise, ripple and tension is uncalled for. Igbos are consistently killed elsewhere and the noise and fight back is not measurable to the case on ground. |

maajin007:FYI we distaste you twice as much as you do us. As for the reasons for your distaste? We are simply destined for greatness which is why after all we went through during the war Ndigbo have the highest GDP per person in this country while the hausas are the poorest even though they have ruled the country for nearly fifty years. And as for the Yorubas they simply can't stomach the ingenuity of the igbo man and that is what is responsible for their bitter bile. Meanwhile who God bless no man can curse! |

OdenigboAroli:An Oba does not apologise. It's about the office not about the man. Believe me if he can, he'd have done that instead of retracting his statement. Don't expect him to apologise, he'll be going against the 'ethics' of his office. An Oba does not apologise. That's the dilemma Oba Akiolu has found himself. |

The Oba is a hopeless bastard and the lazy and dirty people he is ruling are bunch of cowards....Let the Yorubas reclaim Ilorin from Sokoto caliphate before thinking of evicting Igbos from Lagos. As long as we remain one Nigeria, we are in Lagos to stay and there is nothing they can do about it...We have taken some of their federal constituencies as evident during last election and all I have to tell is to keep calm because this is just the beginning...ediotic fools and hopeless cowards.. ![]() |
