A Company Profile also known as a Corporate Profile or a Business Profile is a well-crafted document that is used as a marketing tool to introduce a company, business idea or special project to a potential partner, client, investor, financial institution or other stakeholders. It aims to deliver a company’s story in a concise and articulate format. For effective marketing and promotional campaign, it is highly recommended that a business creates an effective and engaging Company Profile.

A Company Profile usually consists of a company’s history or description, corporate statement, products and/or services, resources, organization structure, performance status and product portfolio. In the case of developing a profile for a business idea or special project such as an app, the template will be quite different from that of a business profile. In cases like this, a custom table of content is derived to enable proper detailing of the idea. A Profile basically just helps the reader have an overview of what the company does and offers, its target market, unique strength, track records, principles and whether it is a good entity to do business with. The impression a reader has about your organization will be strongly influenced by the way the content of the profile has fulfilled his expectations.

However, a Company Profile should go beyond just stating facts about a company. Well written profiles will deftly convey the predominant values and corporate culture that lends the organization its distinct character. A unique Corporate Profile should also demonstrate how effective a company is in meeting its customer’s needs.

To put together a very good Corporate Profile you have to be concise, articulate, creative, mind-striking and never boring. Focus on the pertinent information, present the main elements and be objective. Present the profile in such a way that will make the reader find it interesting and engaging. When writing, you have to position yourself as the reader to know if what you writing entices you.

COMPONENTS OF A COMPANY PROFILE

For a business profile, the following are the possible content guideline. This will vary especially for new businesses and start-ups or the business industry.

- Introduction/About Us/Company History
- Corporate Statements (Mission, Vision & Core Values others can include Philosophy or Principles)
- Services/Products
- Portfolio
- Management Team/Board Members/Key Team Members
- Partners/Associates
- Capacity/Assets
- Testimonials/Achievements/Awards
- Contact Information

For special cases such as creating a profile for an idea or project, the following can be a possible content guideline;

- The Idea/Project Concept
- The Brand’s Name & Identity
- Description
- Development
- Marketing Strategies
- Deployment
- Investor’s Benefits
- Social Benefits
- Resources
- Budget
- About Us/Me

OTHER COMPONENTS OF A COMPANY PROFILE

Your brand’s logo: This is important in the marketing and branding of the profile and the business itself. Ensure it is a peculiar design, easy to recognize and interprets the brand message. Sometimes, using a slogan/catchphrase just below the logo is great for marketing, the message below can go a long way in creating trust & assurance no matter how little it may sound. The logo and the slogan must be what appears on other marketing items of the company such as business cards, flyers, folders, stationeries and so on.

Once you’ve been able to accomplish all of the above. The next most important thing is the design of the profile. Colors, type of fonts, creativity all play a role in building the brand’s reputation and trust. A very simple yet beautiful and unique design helps in the overall packaging.

For printing, go for the best or the next best thing. Direct Image printing is quite affordable in recent time. Would recommend you use it when printing your profile.

HOW TO WRITE A BUSINESS PROPOSAL

Writing a Business Proposal is like writing a story, you have to set the stage (once upon a time), state the challenge (snow white in dire need of a special kiss to wake up from a curse), explain the solution (prince charming saves the day) and describe the result (happily ever after). Proposals have always been an effective tool for persuasion. Business proposals are very similar to TV adverts, they are weapons of influence. They are very effective in influencing people’s decisions. That is why every business entity must be able to write winning proposals to persuade their client to get in bed with them (I mean by doing business together).

The craft behind any business proposal should not be focused on what the company can do and what it has been doing but should focus on what the client tends to gain when they employ your services. It should be all about them (clients). You have to sell the benefits because the goal is to persuade the client that your company is best positioned to get the job done. From time to time, always position yourself as the reader as you write the proposal, try and picture yourself in the shoes of a grumpy old man and see if it excites you. This will help correct many words and how you put them. An example is;

(1) ABC Engineers is a leading consulting engineering firm providing technical leadership, experience in design and quality service across all market sectors worldwide. In addition to our core mechanical and electrical design services, we provide additional consulting services to better serve our clients.

Can be better written as;

(2) Business challenges often have solutions in technology, facilities, and processes. We understand what drives your business. Moreover, we take partner’s interest in your success. It is our belief that partners give partners a competitive edge. Our clients depend on us to bring an outsider’s perspective and analytical ability to help them plan and reach their goals. Our ability to engineer, constructs, and operates facilities round out that objective.

The question is which one excites you? If example 2 excites you than example 1, then you right.

You have to be specific, keep it brief, spoon feed the reader, focus on action words, try using bullets to state important points, graph and charts if possible, pictures, all these give a quicker and better view at what you passing across in its content.

The following isn’t the default table of content when writing a business proposal but it is most likely the guideline you can use from a pool of guidelines. Depending on the purpose, type of proposal and who you directing it to, it might require you to design a template that will adequately enable you to deliver effectively.

- Executive Summary
- Introduction
- Challenges/Problems
- Solution/Reward
- Method of Approach/Technical Plan
- Objectives
- Schedule
- Portfolio
- Budget
- Financial Implications
- Personal/Team Resume
- Conclusion

Composing a business proposal requires you to understand the market to a large extent and identify what sets you apart, what makes your services or products unique. These are the values that would make up most parts of your content. All aspect of the proposal must be taken seriously because you might not just know what will convince the audience to work with you. It might be something as little as the members of your team or method of approach. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that you put on your A game when writing a proposal.

Don't forget to add pictures where necessary, including graphs and charts. Visuals speak louder than letters. It's easier to see the whole event in a picture. Unlike a company profile, you don't need a glossy paper print, if you want to, you can go the extra mile.

Thanks @ egomah.

Small or Big business owners must have a company profile to present to a potential client when the opportunity arises and must be ready to write business proposal at any point in time. There are big clients who would not entertain working with certain business entity if they don't present well written proposals.

What you will need to do is write a business plan or a grant proposal.
