Is It Really The Resposibility Of Government To Create Jobs? by DeGenius3(m): 11:32pm On Apr 21, 2015
i recently got into an argument with one of my close friends and i was trying to let him know
that government does not create jobs. what they do is create the enabling environment that
will make people's ideas thrive, create policies that will somewhat help small businesses.

i really want to know on this forum if it is the sole responsibility of government to create jobs.
and if at all that it should be a priority for the FG of Nigeria to create jobs for her people.

NOTE: only good and reasonable comment PLEEEEASE.

Thanks.

It is their responsibility to put in place the conditions necessary for jobs creation.

It is a waste of time waiting for an entity outside of yourself to make your life better...think about it logically the people you are asking help from have never met you or know your conditions in life.

Nigerians need to be entrepreneurial, the government is there, primarily for themselves and the super rich; what ever little token gestures we get very rarely make a big difference to our day to day lives.

Most of the money generated in the democratic world will eventually end up in the pockets of politicians and the super rich. If you wait for the government to save you, well you will just become a pawn in that game.

You are only the one who can truly save yourself.

Learn how to become and expert at something, grow a business, never be afraid of a little hard work to get there.

Did you know that there are 85 individuals on this earth who own 46% of the globes wealth!

85 individuals who are worth an estimated 110 trillion dollars!

The situation we are in is more a state of mind than a state of money. We cannot have a dependence psychology

Poor person: "I am a pawn in the game of life nothing I do makes a difference - the world owes me a living"

Successful person: "I am the master of my own universe, I am responsible for myself I can do anything I put my mind to"

in a way, you and your friend are both right
In its most basic form, this is how it works

If people are not able to feed and pursue their aspirations they yearn for change by seeking to overturn the present order peacefully (eg negotiations, democracy, migration) or violently (theft, kidnap, coup, revolution etc)

In modern times and in a rough way, what i have described translates to:
if people do not have jobs, they violently rebel (eg Tunisia) against the government or vote them out (eg Nigeria).

So for self interest, (not necessarily moral qualms) a government needs to ensure that jobs are created.
it can ensurure in either one or two ways:

1) the government indirectly creates jobs by providing the enabling physical, mental and social structures stimulus required for organisations to create these jobs
2) directly creating jobs themselves (e.g civil service)

...so, the two posters above me, plus your friend and yourself are all kinda correct
also read up social contracts for a better understanding

No, but it's their responsibility to create/enable a healthy environment for citizens to create jobs. i.e Electricity, security, healthy competition, etc.

i agree with you.
i really believe that jobs should be created by entrepreneurs. hence we
should begin to develop our minds towards entrepreneurship.
