Give Us Light Now : Enough Is Enough by jideflash(op): 5:48pm On Apr 29, 2015
When will Nigerians start demanding for Public Power instead of wasting money on self-generation. We havent had electricity during business hours for the past 3months, hereby costing me over 60,000 naira to fuel my small 2.5 KVA which cant carry any a.c or heavy appliance except computer, fan and light bulbs for 8 hrs a day. Yet im forced to pay for public electricity fixed charge of 1500 monthly. Now to round it up; i cant even get petrol to buy now as fuel scarcity as resurfaced. How do i explain this to my client. How many struggling businesses will have to die due to the Govt failure. Why do Nigerian protest over fuel increment only and not face the reality of the Electricity failure that as made us over dependent on petrol. Do you know much you spend to fuel your gen yearly, do you even know the amount of times you have to go to the filling station and the transport cost. How many people have died to Generator fumes or blackout in Hospitals. How much has been spent on Power since 1999, why cant anyone see an improvement. Who is responsible; the Government, oil marketers, contractors, vandals, generators dealers ? if Power failure is one of the major challenge to Nigeria Growth why has there not been a State of Emergency declared in the sector. Is this our Fate for life. Enough is Enough, we must not keep quiet any longer.
Use the attached image and hashtag ‪#‎GiveUsLightNow‬ . lets make our voices be heard. Vent out the frustration.

That's the ordeal of living in a perpetual third world nation. Hopefully the incoming government will pay special attention to this problem. The fact is that Nigeria will not develop until power is regular and all other vices like corruption, nepotism and mismanagement are tackled. That's one of the main reasons I was absolutely against GEJ and Obasanjo.

Is it today that public electricity went comatose? Is it today we started buying petrol at 100 naira a litre in PH? Is it today the sound & fumes of generator became our ever present spiritual worship? We as Nigerians have loved mediocrity and suffering so continua, continua.

Well said.

The Obj and Jonathan administration failed miserably in liberating Nigeria from the chains of power failure. The myopic combination of obj and jona failed to realize that power is the back bone of any economy. With constant power, the cost of production would drop drastically thereby creating more job opportunities as a result of the huge profits recorded by companies. With epileptic power supply, the cost of production would constantly be on the high side. Lots of factories and companies would be forced to lay of their contract staffs so they can meet up with the financial needs of the company.

Nigerians rather than channel their disgust at the government prefer to divide themselves along religion and ethnicity attacking and blaming one tribe or the other.

A quick view at the kind of words some people spew on Nairaland would make you weep for this country. While our leaders are drowning this country, killing every dream and ambition the youths have, we are responding their murderous attempt by insulting one tribe or the other.

Expectations are high on the incoming government. I really hope they put in their best in regards to the power issue. Power is one of Nigeria's greatest problems, if the government can provide stable electricity for Nigerians, it would go a long way in restoring the image of the country as well as giving up coming entrepreneurs confidence.

POWER PROBLEM IN NIGERIA IS THE MAJOR REASON PDP DISGUSTS ME. PDP FAILED TO DELIVER STABLE POWER TO NIGERIANS AFTER 16 YEARS IN POWER.
Re: Give Us Light Now : Enough Is Enough by btoks: 7:35am On May 02, 2015
Agreed. For too long Nigerians have suffered with this power supply problem. I just hope that the new government can genuinely address this major issue and alleviate the suffering. Regular power supply=better security, more jobs, better healthcare.
There is a lot of work to do as our current generation capacity of about 4GW will not even meet Lagos state power demand
