iwriterng:Please what school is that? In your fourth year, an autopsy should be done within the proper contexts in pathology. If you're doing pathology(morbid not clinical anatomy) then I don't see the need for a course called clinical anatomy at that level. I have a feeling you just heard this from someone and rushed to open a thread. |

anonimi:Oh, Ok, Maybe I did sha. But I responded going by his last question of how are they supposed to graduate with enough knowledge if they do not have cadavers. Unless he is saying that the Only way his school can get it is by paying for it. Then I understand his worries. |

@Op..I don't know what you mean that you a fourth year student can't question your lecturer on something she said. No wonder she can serve you guys poo and you swallow. |

Chartey:Another dumb assumption. You would be better off asking questions than making assumption. To maintain the integrity of my post, I have attached a picture of my course outline to show the course title. Your question should be: Why is my school curriculum different from the conventional medical school curriculum, and I would have answered you politely.

Originalsly:Not that I lack the confidence to ask questions, but I can't ask questions like this in class because its not directly related to the course she is taking me, its more of a moral question and it won't benefit the entire class. Asking questions that query our lecturer's moral stand or the administrative arm of the school is considered rude and may attract an "unofficial consequence" Its Nigeria and things happens. |

it is mostly african sentiments. as long as my wife is down with it i see no reason not to commit my dead body to the furtherance of science and saving the lives of the living. lack of acts like this will create a black market as the op described. |

iwriterng:I understand all that "unofficial consequences".... but she raised the topic which opens the door for you to question her on it for clarification. Must you question her before the class only? As a fourth year student you shouldn't have this high level of fear of even asking a question. Changes in society usually begin on campuses ...by university students who demand and demonstrate....but here you are defending your fear of asking a question on a given topic. Need to step up bro. |

iwriterng:Well i don't know of your school but i can tell u that in Bayero University Kano B.U.K the cadaver used in labs are usually un identified and unclaimed bodies from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital AKTH, Same for Uniport, the get unclaimed bodies from University of Port Harcourt Teaching hospital UPTH. And these are free. I don't think your lecturer knows what he's saying unless he stands to gain something from yall by saying they purchase it, maybe to extort money. |

SARS divisions all over the country are responsible for supplying fresh bodies to teaching hospitals. They are also big in the organ trafficking trade. With the new health law passed by the National Assembly, SARS will be pushed out of the organ trafficking network and the hospitals themselves will become the major suppliers of organs for the international black market. It is important to note that the Nigerian Police Force is one of the major opponents of a true National Identity database because such a database will adversely affect the cadaver trade that is a significant source of revenue for them. |

Firstly medical students(MBBS/BDS) don't take their courses in units,so you are either and allied medical students or you are not even in medical school. Secondly ,all medical schoola are attached to a teaching hospital. So the college of medicine is the school and the teaching hospital is for the patients.Usually the teaching hospital owns all unclaimed corpse and they sell it to the college. So its true that anatomy dept buys corpse from the teaching hospital . Lastly, no matter the style of calendar you use,you can't be doing anatomy in your fourth year!In Medilag here anatomy ends in 2nd year, for most other school it ends in 3rd year.I suspect you are a bsc anatomy student.Stop forming Doctor! |

YinkaDiva:Your comment reeks of ignorance! Where in my post did I "form doctor"? What on earth made you think like that? Yes! I am a B.Tech anatomy student, and I am not "forming doctor " in your words. My department is under college of health sciences; Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (hence the term "medical students" in my original post). I never said I am studying medicine, so read and understand before you post a comment. God! You're so myopic! |

bodies are bought from mortuaries by medical schools because most times those bodies have been in the mortuary for about a year. and they were not claimed ... so selling it helps them to recupperrate some of the money they invesred in it. |
