konkoo is not that familiar per se, but opolo is the word for frog or toad, not sure there's a distinction between the two, although there might be sha.
the ones that make noise at night are toads. Frog is konko. Frogs are eaten somewhere in France too.

A lot of ignorance flowing on this thread.

get it right: Both frogs AND toads have their poisonous and edible species. the distinctive marker is the poisonous ones will have very BRIGHTLY COLOURED skin to ward off potential hunters.

however, I should add that most of the species consumeed are the toads (speaking from experience cool

i think the ones which lay their tadpole eggs all over the place, are toads although i dont remember correctly.

but frogs are not commonly found all the time like toads.

Guys don't let's mislead ourselves. Toads are the ones Yorubas call Opolo. They're mostly brown/dark brown and have coarse, poisonous skin.

Frogs are the ones known as Konko or Ankere (remember that Fadeyi Oloro series). They have smooth green/brownish green colours and are the ones that make those terrible sounds in swampy or water-logged areas. They're quite tasty when roasted with a little amount of dried pepper and salt!
wa gbayi.

whaooooo , I thought I knew the difference, never knew I was wrong all along . It is the frog that I was wrongly refereing to as toad then. Thanks for the clarification and correction. It is the frog that is edible and not the toad.
