I went to the Kaduna refinery when I was in secondary school (excursion) The guide told us that it took years to build it (can't remember)

What you have seen above was built by some set of people from this country....why will you think its not possible.....building refinery or fixing old ones are not miraculous. PDP has really done a great damage to your thinking.

It's been settled over and over again that Buhari's administration didn't build any refinery. Why are you misinforming people?

The general built refineries in his time as military head of State. He is not the drunken fisherman from Otuoke who promises and fails.

Besides, the refineries deteriorated further under PDP rule and especially under GEJ administration. Blame the fisherman for the woes in the oil sector. He failed his countrymen.

Buhari should open the refining sector by allowing companies and individuals to build modular refineries. These cant be built or moved into the country and assembled in a matter of months. By so doing, confidence will be built and the general citizens will know that the president_elect means business. One @ a time, we will surely get there.

Our biggest problem as a nation is illiteracy and our mob mentality. That is why corruption thrives.

Nigerian government has never ran any organization right... Its always run aground because of the unproductive mindset of an FG employee. NNPC, NITEL, Railway corporation, NEPA etc

As such, any attempt to have the FG run refineries will be an utter failure and I don't need a sooth sayer to say that.

Secondly, these refineries were built on archaic process modules in the 70s and 80s and no attempts have been made by subsequent governments to upgrade to newer technology.

Repairing these refineries at this time is like trying to fix a 1975 peugeot truck whose spare parts and accessories have long been stopped in manufacturing by the vendor. Any attempt to try to fix the refineries will require paying more for it to the equipment manufacturers fabricate custom made equipments to fit our moribund refineries.

The cost of fixing these refineries will build two new refineries each.... Then why fix them? Only the heavy ends will be economic for an entrepreneur at the moment.

The Way Forward
Take away fuel subsidy and issue refining licenses to renowned downstream companies. The FG can get into a JV agreement to retain ownership like is done in the upstream and exploration industries.

In the long run, FG can afford to sell crude to the local refineries at subsidized rates for local consumption. The employment and business prospects of the downstream is enormous. But we need relative peace in the SS region for these to be viable.

GEJ was headed this exact path but we lot were too blind to see.
you're absolutely correct! Now when Dangote refinery and petrochemical complex hit the ground running next year with enough petrol to go round, people will be appreciating the government in power. Sincerely speaking people fell flat for APC propaganda. We pray Buhari succeed thou. Its just that his speech of late is giving me an inkling that Nigerians made a wrong decision.
Re: PHOTOS OF NIGERIA REFINERIES: The Unbelievable! by juman(m): 3:29am On May 05, 2015
Why do we have so so useless people as 'leaders' in this country?

What is so difficult in building refineries?

Even those in war torn countries build small scale refineries day in day out.

What of those illegally refining the fuel in this country, why can't the government regulate that and help them.

Abeg this one nigeria na big problem.

you're so onpoint with this post...the way forward is to remove fuel subsidy and encourage deregulation of the sector...it's just painful that Nigerians are yet to really understand how beneficial these policies are to the economy

I guess you'll retract your statement if you research further about the construction of the so called refineries. Cos i'm yet to really see any infrastructural project done by him during the time he was busy dashing out jail terms.
