Peugeot 404 was "the car" of the early 70s except you owned a Mercedes Benz 280s. By late 70s Peugeot 504 GL or L was already the in thing and 404 was naturally relegated to "nuturu m, nuturu m". The early 80s saw the emergence of 504 GR, and the 2000 version with a/c (ntu oyi) before 505 was rolled out in the late 80s. And that began the decline of Peugeot cars in Naija.
Some of the cars mentioned above, were out earlier than the dates stipulated.

E.g. 504 was in Europe as early as 1968, the 'GR' was already available in Nigeria in the late 70s.

And 404 was already available in the early 60s.

505 even the SR was out as early as 1979, though I guess wasn't available in Nigeria till 1981 ( my dad had one . . . N11,500.). The 505 evolution came in the late 80s.

They still exist. Pushing the car in an expressway is gross embarassment. Plying it about to catch a babe's attention is horrifying. To start cars like this especially used ones, it emits sharp sounds like tchin-tchin- tche-tche-tche-tche-tche tche-tche-tche-tche-tchumm

I saw this car at ikoyi, three weeks ago. it was immaculate white in colour and was driven by a prosperously looking neat man(probably in his forties). the car was very new and had this customized number plate(CJ).
i hailed him as we drove through the traffic through Osborne en route 3rd mainland bridge, he smiled when he saw that i was full of admiration for the car he he was driving. I was amazed by three things, one is beauty of the car, secondly, the car was mechanically sound and thirdly, the person driving it did not looking any inch a poor man.I couldn't match him for speed on the 3rd mainland bridge as i watched him zoom off, leaving me far behind.

I have a profound likeness/love for Lions because i was raised in a community where they are adored to date.(somewhere in Edo state)

My grandpa used to own one of this. When he died, my father went ahead to pick the car and refurbished it despite hving like 2 cars of his own..Na once in a while he dey drive am. I could remember vividly wen we went home for my grandpa's 1 yr rembrance, we took the car home and pple for street were like"so this car still dey alive"?.......lo and behold, the car don dey old and na so my papa park am put for ground. Like six years ago, na the car I take go learn how to drive. The day my papa finally agreed to let go of it cos its part is now becoming scarce in the market I nearly dey cry cos na en i dey take cruise town and pple go be like see this guy ooo wey dey drive old car. I became the toast of the town with my locally made gbedu blasting.....404 with gear wey dey en neck. The car strong die and I doubt if any this new generation cars can stand its durabilty cos if the car balance finish for road, with its engine okay, e dey tear nonsense

This car needs to be resurrected and a close look at it indicates that it carries more swag when compared to the recently trending VW BEETLES..
Looks almost like the reigning Mercedes G Wagon.
