chemistry tip-. upward delivery can otherwise be called downward displacement of air, during upward delivery of a gas, the air goes down(downward displacement ) and the gas goes upwards (upward delivery).. examples are - hydrogen gas and ammonia gas. therefore upward delivery is used to collect gases that are less dense than air.

downward delivery is otherwise known as upward displacement of air, meaning the gas is collected downwards while the air goes upwards(upward displacement ) Example chlorine and sulphur. therefore downward delivery is used to collect gases that are denser/heavier than air.
