Former Egyptian president, Hosni Mubarak, has been sentenced to 3 years in imprisonment on corruption charges following a retrial in Cairo. Mubarak’s two sons, Gamal and Alaa were also sentence for four year over embezzlement of millions of dollars in the space of 10 years. Mubarak and his sons allegedly embezzled $14 million (£9.3m) meant for the renovation of presidential palaces. AP reports that supporters of the 87-year-old autocrat shouted in anger as the judge read the verdict. An Egyptian court had dropped other cases against Mubarak and ordered a retrial in the $17 million embezzlement case in January 2015. The court also said legal procedures were not properly followed in the cases against his sons, therefore overturned their conviction. The lawyer for the Mubarak family however said the new verdict can be appealed. http://pulse.ng/world/hosni-mubarak-egypts-ex-president-2-sons-jailed-for-corruption-id3740173.html
