Imminent Blackout As Power Generation Drops By 1,800mw by Parkac(op): 9:45am On May 15, 2015
Indications that Nigerians may experience more power blackouts in the coming weeks, emerged yesterday from the disclosure made by the permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Ambassador Godknows Igali that within the last five weeks, power generation has dropped from 4,500mw to 2700 mw .

Igali who made the disclosure to Senate Correspondents at the National Assembly after briefing the Senate Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy, said gas and crude oil pipeline vandals were responsible for the drastic drop in power generation.

He said the high rate of vandalization carried out by vandals on both oil and gas pipelines across the country within the last five weeks, have made the country to lose 1, 800 mw of power generation which was 4,500mw as at 4th of last month but now dropped to 2,700 mw.

The current power outages being experienced by electricity consumers across the country according to him, are caused by the vandals who he said carry out their nefarious acts on daily basis.

He added that as a way of preventing the vandals from throwing the entire country into blackout, security agencies have swung into action against them with 200 of them already in the nets of the agencies for the needed prosecution.

He said, “We have been able to explain to electricity consumers that the current power outrage is as a result of high rate of pipeline vandalization. They vandalize both the crude pipelines and gas pipelines on daily basis.

“But the more sinister ones which is with a lot of pain is when people deliberately blow up pipes written clearly gas pipeline. They blow them up almost every day, they blow them up and that denies the power plants some gas, unfortunately our country depends on a lot of gas.

“We have hydro-electric power dams, Shiroro, Jebba and Kanji which are the major ones, but this dry season the hydro-electric dams does not do well. Security agencies have arrested 200 people vandalizing gas pipelines in the last two months and they are interrogating them and working with communities to solve this problems and put it behind us.

These lazy governors should invest in independent power projects like we have here in Akwa-Ibom state.
L.G.As like Itu, Ikot Abasi, Eket, Essien Udim ,Itam and parts of Uyo where the transmission has reached have near-constant power supply.

PROUDLY AKWA-IBOM!wink

I laugh at you people. Urhobo youths have told you all that they will BLOW gas pipelines and others. The government Must do what is sane and moral or we shall continue with this cycle of rat chase.

I can't wait for the urhobo vs ijaw supremacy when your son leaves. Buhari will empower the urhobos massively.

Wait tire... From time immemorial there has never been major conflict between the Great Urhobo nation and the Ijaws in delta state. In fact, the Urhobos and the Ijaws are firmly united. The Oil Companies and the Military have tried unsucessfully to empower the Itsekiris against the Ijaws and Urhobos but their efforts ended in nullity. Buhari should try his luck, he is bound to fail as long as he goes through that route because not only the Ijaws will deal with him, we will make sure that not a single drop of oil will go to the Federal Government from our land. Meanwhile, we are pushing for our demand of Resource Control and Regional autonomy on one hand and a referendum on the other hand. Buhari should do his worse!

As for Itsekiris, I won't talk about them.

Just wait now, urhobos have been vandalising pipelines since 2012 over claims of marginalisation, they have seen how the Ijaws have treated them since the son was in power, they are just waiting for him to leave there.
The north is ready to empower the urhobos and the SW has got the backs of the itsekiris. Since you guys want to further destroy your delta, we will help you.

You people are funny though, resource control that you didn't push for under your son, you want to get from aboki

Parade will change gear from May 29, and anybody, even Niger Deltan militants, caught vandalizing pipelines, will be dealt with. How can any reasonable government that knows its economy is hinged on oil and gas watch without taking any step when the pipes that convey this commodities are vandalized.
