A Complaint On The Inhuman Treatment Meted Out On A Friend By Some Khaki Men. by Ojestas(op):
OGUNYEMI GBOLAHAN Esq
ADDRESS: 5, Ireakari Estate, Off NTA
Road, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. 25th May,
2015.
The General Officer Commanding,
Ekiti State Command,
Ekiti State.
Sir,
A COMPLAINT ON THE ASSAULT AND
INHUMAN TREATMENT METED OUT
ON MY PERSON BY SOME OF YOUR
OFFICERS.
I, Ogunyemi Gbolahan Samuel, Esq, a
citizen of Nigeria hereby forward my
complaint to your office with regards
to the above subject matter. Sir, on
24th day of May, 2015 at about 13.45
hours in noon, I fell victim of the
brutal, degrading and inhuman
treatment in the hands of three
soldiers deployed to Atikankan
Junction, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The
facts of my ugly, unpleasant,
uncivilized and crass encounter with
the three officers whose name are
unknown because their names were
not written on their uniforms but can
be properly identified are as follows:
1. That I journeyed from Benin to
Ado-Ekiti arriving at the Ijigbo
roundabout at about 13:45 pm on
Sunday, the 24th day of May, 2015.
2.That I mounted a commercial
motorcycle to take me to my
destination at NTA Road, Ado-Ekiti,
Ekiti State.
3. That suddenly, the motorcyclist
informed me to alight from the
motorcycle because of the road block
and the presence of some soldiers at
Atinkankan junction, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti-
State.
4. That I found an unfamiliar scene
where people were walking a long
distance under the scorching sun with
hands above their heads, I thought
they were the recent criminals
paraded publicly as it is a customary
treatment given to criminals under
arrest.
5. That on getting close to where the
soldiers were one of them shouted at
me to raise my hands above my head,
as I tried to obey out of duress and
intimidation, the supervising officer
called me out of the throng of people
. 6. I went to him, greeted him but to
my chagrin he did not respond to my
pleasantries, my initial thought was
that I wanted to be searched because
I was carrying a bag which I found
ideal but the Supervising Officer asked
me the question, "who are you"?
7. I responded that I am Barrister
Ogunyemi Gbolahan Samuel, then, he
said "you are not above the law
because you are a barrister, barrister
my foot".
8. So I replied what law, does the
Constitution , or any Federal Law
empower you to subject innocent
Nigerians to this degrading and
inhumane treatment.
9. The Supervising Officer shouted at
me to be quiet, ordered me to go
back to the starting point and trek
down with my hands raised above my
head, to which I declined. It was at
this point I informed him that I was in
Ado for an important meeting which
was to commence by 14:00 hours
noon.
10.To my surprise, he called one of
the junior officers that he should deal
with me and if I made an attempt to
walk I should be gunned down.
11.That I was falsely imprisoned on
that spot for more than forty (40)
minutes with the threat of being shot
by their AK 47 rifle if I made any
attempt to walk.
12. The junior officer ordered me to
squat, he booted me, went to get a
stick and hit me with it on my
shoulder and neck region and on my
back.
13. As if that was not enough, another
junior hit me with a 2 by 2 plank with
nails on my left leg towards my kneel
region, and I was bleeding from the
punctured hole on my leg. I was
beaten blue black publicly in the
presence of by-standers and
passersby.
14. That in the process of such
degrading treatment , a soldier biked
down in mofti came to the scene and
he pleaded with the three soldiers to
let me go.
15. That I was completely humiliated
in public as the soldiers meted out
brutal degrading and corporal
punishment on me.
16. I went to the State Teaching
Hospital for medical treatment that
same day to be informed that medical
treatment would commence on
Monday, the 25th day of May, 2015.
So I left for a private clinic where the
bruises sustained were treated, I was
given two injections and administered
drugs.
17. I went home lamenting about the
ugly ordeal in the merciless hands of
the soldiers and questioned whether
truly this a democratic dispensation
where the rights of the citizens should
not be flagrantly impounded on in a
civilised and sane clime.
Sir, I want you to use your good office
in bringing the perpetrators of this
dastardly act to book within fourteen
(14) days of the receipt of this
complaint, as I am strongly desirous
of enforcing my fundamental human
rights in the Court of law.
Thanks in anticipation of a favourable
response.
Yours Faithfully,
Ogunyemi Gbolahan .S, Esq
