Toyota Highlander 2003.
Repair of cabin heater function.
Sorry I didn't take any pictures.

On Friday, at 5am, I woke up to go visit someone urgently in Gwagwalada who was suppose to travel. The night before it rained and my car was covered in condensation hence diminishing the vision ahead. I did all form of climatization tricks I could think of but none worked because my cabin heater was bad (a common manufacturers defect in highlander of 2001-2007). Mine got bad 7months ago.
I came home frustrated and angry.

So I resorted to work.
Below are the 11 steps to follow in repairing the defect.

1. Push tranny stick L (to give me space for working). Ensure your parking brakes are working well before you try this.

2. Disconnect negative terminal from the battery (to avoid breaching any electrical components and to protect myself). Note: safety first.

3. Pry out the faux wood or aluminium surrounding the audio system and climate control with my bare hands (I don't want to scratch it).

4. Using a 10" T spanner, loosen 6 numbers of 10" bolts from the dash which held the audio player and climate control mechanisms in place.

5. Remove wiring harnesses attached to both the audio system and the climate control module.

6. Using a philips (star screwdriver with tip shaped like this '+') remove 4 screws attaching the climate control module to the audio system
via a metallic protrusion.

7. Remove the black ABS plastic covering protection for the climate control module by removing 8 star screws (small brownish-black coloured) with the philips screwdrivers Here involves extra carefulness or else GOBE is on the way to happening.

8. Remove the clear glass plastic windows on the black ABS plastic covering then detach a strip of flat wires attaching two green coloured mother boards. (Over carefulness must be obeyed unless you will successfully commit GOBE at this stage).

9. Remove the heater control knob from the climate control module fascia and remove a 10" flat nut and washer.

10. Remove the green motherboard controlling the climate control and locate the heater controller. A flat wire with 3 metallic strips shows and is attached to another smaller mother board for the heater controller. That's the culprit. Solder it back. (DON'T mess it up and don't kazeemize it or else, you've done work done = Zero and that's heavy GOBE).

11. After soldering, re-attach every components in reverse manner as you've remove them. Don't miss any step and don't break any part or else GOBE will arise.

Test them wella and enjoy the heat coming off.

It takes courage and someone with Mechanical/Electrical knowledge to try this.. Its easy read than done cheesy..

My Advice: Plz, if you have no idea, DON'T TRY THIS ON YOUR CAR BECAUSE IF YOU MISS A STEP AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO CARRY ON.. Now thats a BIGGER GOBE!!!

My counter advice is know your car more, get to study it more, if you wanna do this DIY and you easily misplace screws, get containers to keep the various screws. Also taking photographs at each stages could go along way.
For those resident in Abuja, contact me if you wanna fix yours.

Soldering? My mortal enemy..I really dunno why I cant get a soldering job right! It can't be my handwork 'cos my work routinely requires me to do much more intricate work with my hands.

Kudos though!

Nice one Lomomike, but why no pictures Na angry .

Never mind I perfectly understand wink recently did a valve clearance check/adjustment and it took so long because I was snapping my DIY pics as I went along.
It also reminds me of when I did my power steering rebuild without any pics as from the time I opened the pump...needed all the concentration I could get.
