They are now telling us there is no constitutional requirement to do so.

That was the exact same thing Jonathan said after he declared PUBLICLY in 2007 and no one followed his good example. Yet our mumu, clueless 200 million fellow citizens abused our ex-president senselessly!

Nevertheless, beyond the president & VP making a public declaration of their assets, Buhari's campaign promise is to make public asset declaration a pre-condition for appointment of other political office holders into his government. Anything short of that will be an early FAILURE of the change maestros!

But Buhari, in the document titled, ‘I pledge to Nigeria’ had also said that all his political appointees would only earn salaries and allowances as prescribed by the Revenue and Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission.

He said, “I pledge to publicly declare my assets and liabilities, encourage all my appointees publicly declare their assets and liabilities as a pre-condition for appointment. All political appointees will only earn the salaries and allowances determined by the RMFAC.

Sometimes I wonder the level of ignorance of some so called human rights activists.

Mumuni must be a mumu indeed.

The constitution is very clear:

140. (1) A person elected to the office of President shall not begin to perform the functions of that office until he has declared his assets and liabilities as prescribed in this Constitution and he has taken and subscribed the Oath of Allegiance and the oath of office prescribed in the Seventh Schedule to this Constitution.

What the president and vice did was to first of all comply with the constitution.

It is unthinkable for any sane person to expect Buhari to publicly declare his assets, before verification by the CCB(Code of Conduct Bureau),which normally takes about 30 days.

Buhari did not promise to publicly declare his assets before 30 days.Even the late Yar'dua had to wait for about 30days after verification,to make public declaration.

My conclusion is that those expecting public declaration before constitutional declaration(or earlier than the verification period of 30days) should have their brain examined.

Shut d crap up. They made that promise with no one forcing them. You keep to your promises, that is what gentlemen do.

Haven complied with provision of constitution I think is okay

It's not ok. GEJ also complied with constitution yet we all clamoured for him to do so publicly which he refused to. Since Buhari used that as a campaign promise, he must fulfill it. What's difficult in publishing it....he must have his own copy of d form, not so?
My humble submission

If I had the to time I will even contest that provision. A direct interpretation of that clause is that until they declare their assets, they can not perform the functions of their office. There is even no time restriction or threshold. Having said that, the duo of buhari and his deputy said they will go a step further by making ng this declaration public. Equity does not allow them to Approbate and reprobate. Nigerians voted for them based on some of those promises and we have refused to be cheated again. Never

Putting a newly formed Government over the edge, is a little too much of an opposition to me.

It is for your own good even if you donot like it for whatever reason I can't understand. It was a good idea to put the Jonathan government under pressure to perform. It was good enough to change the government hopefully for good. So why is it such a bad idea all of a sudden if you don't have ulterior motives towards the government.

Anybody asking PMB and VYO to declare their assets publicly is a fool., they have done what they have to do by declaring their to the cose of conduct and that is it.. it's the code of conduct that will publish it.. So they should take their grieve to code of conduct instead of attacking PMB/VYO

Declaration of Assets: The meaning of 'public' in the procedure for asset declaration is not going on facebook or nairaland to make announcement that I have this and that. It has its procedure. You apply for and fill the asset declaration form and submit to CCB. The CCB will then conduct searches and assessments (valuation). If they discover any descrepancy, the report the Code of Conduct Tribunal. If not, they then publish it. The process takes not less than 30 days. Buhari and his VP submitted the form. It has procedure. So pls people, shut the fvck up or off yourself. Either way, we've got a new president. Deal with it.

Well Jonathan didn't get this much opposition two(2) days after his inauguration, now did he? But that's not the point, as I find opposition very helpful in checking the excesses of a sitting govt.

The point is accusing them of failing to fulfill their promise this early is a bit in my view too hasty I mean what happens if they do so within the week then what? we fault them for something else ??

I know the vast majority of our politicians haven't been exactly trustworthy, but that's one of the reasons (trust in their words) this duo got the job. Question is why are we losing that trust so EARLY ??

That's my opinion as a Nigerian willing to sacrifice a little trust and patience to see how things pan out but then again, I can't blame Nigerians, they've suffered too much in the hands of politicians.

Yar'dua made his public declaration,30 days after swearing in and verification by CCB. His official declaration was made long before then,in compliance with the constitution:

Did Buhari promise to publicly declare assets before verification by CCB?

please stop spewing nonsense, we are equally educated and understand very well the constitutional requirements and procedure.

The CCB can not declare the content of submitted form publicly unless Buhari tells them to do.

It is not the job of the CCB to declare anyone's asset publicly after verification.

The CCB does not have any time frame or the fictitious 30 days claims for verification.

The law States that the forms must be submitted 30 days after it has been issued.

There is no part of the law that says one must wait for verification process before declaring their asset publicly if they wish to do so.

Verification is not the concern of the person that submitted the form, it is up to the CCB to do that job, it does not stop Mr President from going further to declare his asset. I am tired of reading your nonsensical twist.

The constitutional requirements are very easy to access, all you need to do is Google it..... Don't be claiming nonsense.

He promised to publicly declare his assets. Well meaning, objective Nigerians should remind him to fulfill that promise.
Or do you have any problem with transparency and accountability?

By the way, do you know what hypocrisy is?
OK, you want him to come to your street and declare his assets and every Nigerian's street because he said he will declare his assets PUBLICLY and your understanding of public is to be screaming on radios, TV, newspapers, social media.......

Then why where you guys ranting that Jonathan did not declare his asset. Because he did the same thing that PMB just did. But PMB during his change mantra promise Nigerians that he will declare to the full glare of the public. So your excuse is inconsequtial because for you to run for public office you must declare to code of conduct bureau.
