what is exactly the purpose of someone being sent to jail? is it for purnishment or for rehabilitation? cc:lalasticlala, OAM4J

Depends on the crime commited and the circumstances surrounding the crime.
If a man enter your house rape your wife and kill your son in the course of an armed robbery, you go ask fg to rehabilitate him? Wont you call for punishment? If a person sends men to go get human parts for rituals and they kill a man for that purpose, if they are caught, will you ask for rehabilitation or punishment?
On the other hand, if a house wife kills her husband while he was beating her up with an iron rod or if a man catches his neighbour red handed sexualy abusing his child and in a fit of anger kills him will you call for them to be punished for defending self and child? So that is why I say it depebds on the crime.

u know!! looking at d prisons in a developed and developing country, one can boldly say that people are sent to jail nt 4 purnishment bcaus they eat fine, take their bath and even go to d jim.

True in some cases. It depends on the type of crime sha. Some jails are dangerous and if sent there its a life of abuse and fear till the prisoner gets out.
To those people, life outside those jails are waaayyyyy sweeter than what ever the system provides for them while in jail.

It depends on the country. Nigeria for instance has made more criminals worse off than they were before being jailed. However, the purpose of jailing an individual is meant to fulfil two purposes in the real sense-corrective and deterrent.

Yes. Some are made for the most hardened criminals while some are just like remand homes. Some are regular but inmates are sorted and grouped into sections acording to the gravity of their crimes while some are just mixed up if the criminals are not repeat offenders. Like one time killer can be in same cell as a car thief .
But I agree with you, in most developed countries criminals are treated well in jail. Lol.

Conjugal Visits ba. Yes but I think its reserved for a few legaly married prisoners though I am not sure why. Nit every prisoner enjoys that right sha.

iam yet to understand why nigeria chose opposite of what the meant, prison are meant for rehabilitation purpose but no such in nigeria's system to worsen it some prisons in nigeria mix hardened criminal with just minor crime.
