klark3:Male mutilation is actually great. Uncircumcised men contact disease faster than circumcised ones. Female mutilation is evils and wicked. |

FrancisTony:I'm sorry your mum didn't tell you that, my mum did and so did she tell my brothers. All that is not important. Ultimately, we forget 95% of things we are told, but what we see repeated is what sticks. Your mum didn't need to tell you anything. You dad already taught you what it is to be a husband. The way he treated your mum was your example, and I am sure he did it right ![]() |

Stillfire:Thank you. We can argue about those terms till blue on the face but as it stands in Nigerian culture Men are superior (in family setting) end off. Does that make the other gender inferior? It depends on how you envisage it. Motola jalade is a successful woman and not a feminist, so that automatically makes him superior right? is she inferior to him? @keeping quite, absolutely Not. I believe we got our priorities mixed up here, what Nigerian women should clamour for is Female empowerment and Equal opportunities, FGM abolition , equal pay( if there's any). Fighting for breadwinnership, control & power in marriage is the least of our problems as it stands. Feminism never going to work. (Sorry I kept saying it). Let's agree to disagree on this one. I'm a lady with few words. ![]() |

FrancisTony:some guys are now left to make the choice for themselves when they grow up. I don't know if that's better. I can't really say since I'm not a guy but I'd assume it would be less painful when done as a baby. |

klark3:Child support: WHen marriage breaks down and there are no child support payment, Mostly its the mother who bears all the financial burden since there is no standard welfare system to care for the children Child marriage: It is mostly young girls that are married off early in life, even a Nigerian senator married a 13yr old denying her the needed development and education Domestic violence: On the average Men are physically stronger than women, So when they get into physical altercation the weaker person suffers more. And some men have used this physical advantage to pummel their women into submission and some have died or been maimed as a result. Girl child education: Some people believe a womans education ends in the kitchen and in some cases girls have been denied education by their parents because of that reason. Female genital mutilation is an issue in some part of Africa. Female genitals get mutilated and their clitoriss cut off because its believed a woman with clitoris would be promiscuous thereby denying those female sexual enjoyment for life |

cococandy:But you just said in a previous post that women should not necessarily desire a man or marriage. So why should we teach our daughters to desire marriage at all? Seems you not very sure of your own stand. Feminism itself teaches women to be self sufficient in all things and not necessarily desire marriage. In order words, we need to stop teaching our daughters to desire marriage. By the way, the right reason is very very subjective. What you think is right varies alot. |

@OP: You start a tread on feminism and did not define it ... Here is the definition: feminism /ˈfɛmɪnɪz(ə)m/ the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=feminism+definition&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7WZPG_en&gws_rd=ssl You say our problem is more cultural than gender related; What formed the basis of this culture? There is a major difference between feminism and feminazism or extreme feminism. Extreme feminism like every other thing extreme loses its purpose and does more harm than good. There we would group free the nipples, smashing male toilets, changing history to her story, misandry and the likes. Like Stillfire would say; uncouth, rude and crass females should not hide under the cloak of feminism... Saying a lady and a man is equal is not a liberty to being rude. Chivalry... Na oyinbo term... It's modern day husbands and men who do it. When I was younger, the youngest and the women did the bulk of the work; there is even a long standing joke that if an African/Nigerian man opens the door for his wife, it is either the wife is new or the car is new Perhaps the only Chivalry is men picking up the bills. They all always did that is was unbecoming for a lady/younger one to pick up the bills. We still have that entrenched in our society. The fact that we are equals does not mean we stop caring for each other or stop been chivalrous... Even amongst two friends same age, same everything (Whom we can consider equals), there is still that bond that makes them do things for each other. Besides, if I get to a door first, I would not wait for a guy to open it for me neither would I jam it after me... courtesy demands I hold the door open for people behind if they have the clearance to do so. All lot of people also mistake independence or interdependence in relationships. Submission: Has had people in stitches for ever; that is one is the reasons men are opined to be superior to women Ephesians 5:21 says we should submit to one another out of reverence for Christ (Sorry to non-believing Bible folks...) and the love God expects from husbands in in 1 Cor 13. Submission really is esteeming your husband above you or putting him first; Love is esteeming your wife above you or putting her first. A couple practice this and there is a balance and they are in heaven. ![]() I am very proud to be a feminist and have a loving home ( I guess I can have it all) and like Coco says, I do not apologize for it. I am also trying to see how feminism = not getting married or been a bad wife . Feminism is a lifestyle which should affect the way you relate with people and your ideals in life. I have seen women who would slap you if you ever allude to them been equal to men maltreat their husbands; a bad woman is a bad woman feminism or not. I will say we all develop sound morals and most of the problems in marriages would disappear. I am a feminist, I believe men and women are equal and translate that into my everyday life. And do, I do not have to announce to everyone, my actions speak for me ![]() |

TooNoisy:what part of ignore don't you understand? See me see wahala. ![]() Nne hapum aka. Leave me alone with your deliberate misunderstandings. Only you know what you stand to gain by fabricating stories. First you didn't quote me. Even after you did. ![]() I accepted for peace to reign. Now I'm saying it is wrong to teach a lady that she needs to be married to be respected and you've managed to twist it into me saying women shouldn't desire marriage. What's up with you? |

bukatyne:time will take care of that. Baby steps at a time. But there will surely be a feminist revolution in Nigeria. As sure as the sun rises. |

cococandy:Hahahaha, there's no benefit of having an uncircumcised dick except that it will adding some inches compared when circumcised. From what I've read in some forums, ladies find it ugly and eyesore. It contacts STD'S faster according to research. |

FrancisTony: Men and women are darn equal.your propensity to stretch the borders of daftness is peerless. from one side of your mouth, men are women are equal. on the other side, men & women are not the same? the gross stupidity oozing out of this section lately is almost vomit-inducing. and these are the leaders of tomorrow......i weep for mother nigeria with the huge army of half-baked graduates roaming around the country. |

TooNoisy:This is what Nigerians don't get about the "married Feminists".... I honestly see them as a Fraud. Let's say it as it is, Marriage is a sociatal status thing. Every woman desire marriage, the moment he puts a ring on it, your decisions are joint. A feminist can wake up and travel to kafancha while a married woman can't. ![]() |

cococandy:Your first post which suggests a woman's worth is not tied to a man. This really means married should not be important to women, just like it is considered less important to men. Your above posts really suggests marriage should be de-emphasized just like the real feminists want it. cococandy: |

FrancisTony:men are the same! men are equal! there's nothing you will find on obama that you will not find on buhari. a man & a woman aren't the same & thus cannot be equal. even animals know there's a difference between a male & a female. 2 equal things cannot be different! i am not obsessed with fights - i am just allergic to stüpidity that is being displayed in public. you cannot tell me apple is different from orange and then say they are both equal. Chillisauce:you can have him.... the coog is unique - i don't share skirts! ![]() coogaluta:it won't change the anything..... the truth is - you & I are not the same. a man is much more superior to a woman......in everything. it's not even close! should women enjoy equal rights as men? of course. these days, even animals enjoy the same rights as humans. every human being deserves to be treated with respect & given the options to choose whatever rocks his/her boat. |
