Who got more firm and disciplined upbringing?
The boy child or the girl child?


Growing up as a girl child was amidst strong words and lots of discipline."You are a girl" "You need to learn values"was like a ringing tone for my siblings and l(five girls). I remember those days when my mum was on us like the way ants surrounds sugar.(laughing)We had no breathing space.
She was always at every nooks and crannies waiting for you to  make one silly mistake and you are in for lots of beatings or yabis according to the level of your silliness.
Chai! Those times was not funny at all  ooh . I remember those days we used to  have siblings meetings to decide whether our parents were actually our biological ones.
(imagine ooh we couldn't understand the reasons for such disciplines)
Teens age was the worst of all.Our routine was just school and back home.We were programmed and you have to follow it religiously.There was no room for visitations to friends and you can imagine any day one of us was unlucky to be sent on errands,once you step out of the house just know that a spy is stalking your movements.(**winks my mum hmmm Laughing)and unfortunately for you,you  met one of your classmate on the way who is a male and you decided to exchange pleasantries Chai!!!you and that boy go know that day..... .......
I remember when we started assisting to sell in my mum's shop.All those admirers who had no opportunity to chat with us saw this as a great opportunity to interact with my sisters and l, so we were selling at a high rate.Trust naija guys they were ready to buy even things they don't need just to talk to us. Hmmm !!!little did we know that some of our co-shop owners were loosing customers and wanted a way of retrieving their customers back. They reported to my parents.
The day my mum met some of our regular customers Ahhh!!!. ......it's another story for another day. ....
It was when I got into higher institution and started interacting with other girls that l realised it wasn't only my mum that was harsh and it wasn't only my sisters and l that had the disciplined up bringing. It was almost every girl child had it.

Most times when I remember those days I usually roll with laughter because I have come to appreciate my parents for such upbringing.
Likewise I also wonder why the male child wasn't treated the way the girl child is being treated.
And so I ask these questions anytime I discuss this issue with friends.
Who needs more discipline while growing up
The male child or the female child?
And ls it necessary to be firm on the girl child for proper upbringing nowadays?

They both need to.be equally chastised...but due to the tradition on ground(which I wish would change.), the female gets more chastising. This tradition needs to be driven into extinction. I firmly believe that very soon with the aid of scholar's like Adichie's commitment to.Feminism, very soon this tradition would become...'once upon a time'

but growing up for me was much like it was for you and many females I know.
"Do this you're a girl.
Don't do this you're a girl".

Was like an anthem.

I wonder how all that good training will yield fine results if the other half is not as well trained to complement us.

lol , in my house, the chorus was slightly different.
"do this, don't u know ur a girl",
"don't do that, don't u know ur a girl" ?
my sisters did all the chores. but I believe a girl needs more attention and discipline. Boys can always find their way

Always female,the same reason we have more area boys than area girls

The female child need it more.

It is easier for the femail child to go astray. You see more focused guys than girls.

Most guys strive to excel in their studies in school while their female counterparts are more interested in frivolities like beauty contests, modern prostitution ( runs) etc.

But I usually emphasize that parents have a uniform voice in discipling their children..not that the mum will reprimand the child and the father will be a tower of refuge.

Oftentimes parents hinge more on females and the males grow up to be lazy, incompetent and can't even treat ladies right.

If I remember correctly, my brother chop the most cane while growing up, the girls were more or less pampered.

i think it sometimes depends on the child,some kids are more stubborn and prone to break rules than others e.g my elder sister is quite gentle and obedient, I on the other hand question authority more. So i did get more punishments.
I do not subscribe to being harder on the female child,infact it is one of the roots of society's problems. We let male kids run wild,churning out irresponsible adults. Any male child who was properly raised will not be a wife beater,rapist et al but as there are so few of them look at the effects in today's society.
I also believe that if you restrict a child (female) too much,they might just turn wild in their later years. I've seen many examples of this.
