I am an ardent(daily) surfer of Nairaland, although my moniker might not ring a bell simply because I usually read updates and comments which has groomed me for the challenges ahead. There is just a concern I want you to help me with,I have seen a lot of students go astray most especially,in moral terms, due to lack of sexual education. So,I need my fellow Nairalanders to give an age range which is most appropriate for parents/guardians and teachers to start giving sexual education without having reasons to keep some terms behind from the teenager(s).I think and wish this will go a long way in helping a lot of parents even on Nairaland. Thanks in anticipation. Cc lalasticlala

I was started learning about reproduction in grade 5 when I was 9 and my mum gave me the most uncomfortable sex talk when I was 12 after "I become a woman" (code for MP grin)

I think the best time is when the child hits puberty

Its a process.
Nothing like 'most appropriate' age.
From the day the child knows there is a difference between a male and female body, the process starts.

I was watching an Episode of Moment of truth with the Family, the Interviewer asked the lady on the hot seat

"Have you had sex outside of your relationship"

Yes, the lady replied.

My 8 year old daughter shouted 'HA!! she appeared genuinely shocked. Me I was more shocked, at my little girl's response angry. I think the earlier the better, judging by the fact that many of these kids develop very fast, the unfortunate rise of paedophiles in our society, the overwhelming peer pressure and their tendency to Explore.

They need to know that uncle or auntie should not touch in certain parts, and the consequences of such 'touch'. We as parents shouldn't shy away from it. So I think from ages of 10 upwards is appropriate, we just read how a 15yrs Old child died during Abortion, and the pregnant 10 year old girl, that was raped by her step father. We do our best, and leave the rest to God, nobody wants a wayward child.
