Men of the Lagos State Special Anti -Robbery Squad ( SARS ) have arrested a man, Kanayo Awurum for allegedly selling his 2-year old son for N650, 000 to a woman, Cecilia Nwatu, who is in desperate need of a male child. Nwatu said she changed the boy’s name to Tochukwu after buying him. Two others arrested in connection with the crime are Nkechi Obi, 45; and Gladys Nwobodo, 38, while two others Emmanuel Obi and Emmanuel Ibe are on the run.

Awurum's wife said, she reported her husband to the police when she discoverd that her husband was up to something. Nwatu, who said she was deceived into buying the boy by Awurum and others for N650, 000 said, she wanted to adopt a male child to save her husband’s family name because a male child is important to them.
