The hausa wasnt winning the war against biafra, untill they sought the help of the yorunba and put awolowo in power and engaged Yoruba soldiers. The yorubas dealt seriously with the biafrans, after occupying a biafran territory, they allow the hausas to have a field day of killing and slaughter. Go and read about Asaba Massacre and gruesome slaughter slaughter of ibos in portharcourt that made the ikwerres separate from ibos.
my late grandfather (he was an ex-soldier, he saw action throughout the civil war and he died a peaceful death at a ripe age of 86) he said when the soldiers were relaxing, he wandered to a nearby village and saw a queue naked biafran people being shot at the back of the head by soldiers and dumped in a very very deep pit where they are immediately covered with sand by some locals, he said the soldiers used pistols and russian rifles fitted with silencers to muffle the sound such a way that even a patrol officers cannot hear the sound.He said the pit was so deep that no one can know dead bodies are there except you dig it with a powerful tractor. after general ironsi was murdered the second in command was a Yoruba instead of him to take power what did he do he ran away. could you believe that. why , because he is a bloody coward . that was why ojukwu never accepted Gowon as his leader. and that was one of the reason he decided to secede. that is what we call braveness. not running away from your duties.
