Following the emergence of Senator-elect Ahmed Lawan as the All Progressives Congress sole candidate for the position of Senate Presidency, senators- elect and APC party members loyal to Bukola Saraki have denounced the process that led to Lawan’s emergence and decided to align themselves with other opposition party senators-elect of the soon to be inaugurated senate in order to grab the senate presidency. This action is a direct affront to the APC party leaders who midwifed the emergence of Lawan. It also rubbishes the notion of party supremacy being touted by APC.

According to a press release dated 6th June by the Saraki faction otherwise known as Senators-Elect of Like Minds, there will be “… a joint press conference by the 65 Senators-Elect of Like Minds drawn from across party lines on Monday morning, the 8th of June 2015.” As events continue to unfold, it is likely that the next senate president will be determined by which APC faction the opposition PDP senators-elect support.
