This woman knows what she is saying........Boko Haram existed since the days of President Obasanjo as C-in-C. They had the same view about western education as they do now but were not as radicalised as they are today. The former leader of the sect, Mohammed Yusuf was a little reserved while Shekau who was his deputy then was more of an aggressive person. All the same, they have committed huge crimes against humanity and must be punished severly.

Claiming Boko Haram didn't exist 14 years ago shows you aren't sure about your claim. I remember in 2003, there was an attack on the sect at their camp in Gwoza. This attacked was carried out based on security reports. During Obasanjo's tenure, Mohammed Yusuf was arrested severally and released. Yes it is true that many of Boko Haram foot soldiers today are the almajiris, the okada riders and black market petrol hawkers of yesterday. They use to move around mosque to mosque discouraging people from westernization but these guys indulged in all manner of stuff like smoking, having illicit sex, rape, drug abuse, infact they were the regular jobless youths on the streets of Maiduguri. Mohammed Yusuf drove a Mercedez benz, had DSTV in his house and was a Manchester United fan yet they claimed westernization was sin.

I also lived in Maiduguri for years........so how many years did you live in Maiduguri and were you in Maiduguri between 2001 -2003?

Dude, I am from Borno State, born and bred in Maiduguri, so dont start this debate with me, just because you spent some "few" years in Maiduguri. Moh'd yusuf having DSTv, Mercedes and a Man u fan, proves nothing. Afterall, most of BH founding members were educated and city dwellers. Also, I would like reiterate to you and who ever cares to listen that, BH were never an armed group in 2003, as the old woman (with all due respect) claimed. Neither, where they living in Bushes, carrying rifles, with colored hats and so on...the story is laughable.

Your story of their camp in Gwoza being raided in 2003 is a blatant lie. Mohd yusuf neither have the followers nor resources at that time, he was almost a nonentity at that period outside of Maiduguri, much less in Southern Borno , not untill after the assasination of Sheik Jafar Mahmud in 2007.

In Borno state, people, especially the youths gravitate towards the Izala Ideology of sheikh Jafar Mahmud, who Moh'd yusuf and his band of followers considered too moderate. Sheik Jafar never supported their Ideology, and rumour has it that Mohd Yusuf and his band of followers were behind the death of Sheik Jafar. He was their biggest obstacle. Moh'd Yusuf followership skyrocketed after Jafar was asassinated. With huge followership, he got the financial support of politicians, and his camps started springing up in Bama, Kalabalge, monguno, yobe, and into oneighbouring states. BH camps in Southern Borno states which btw Gwoza belongs, came at a later stage.
