Soludo has his issues and perception about the economy, so does other experts. It's like writing an exam where the higest grader is regarded the best.
Afterall PMB hasn't yet invited him to even come and chop jollof rice at the villa, so wot's all dis Soludo's interview abt again?

SMH for today's generation.... 80% of the posters before me never bothered to read the article before commenting.

Prof Soludo on PMB's plan to diverse
Nigerian Economy from oil based to Agro mineral based.

...a system designed for consumption of oil money can not be effective for production,..
...the States and LGA's will be required to create their own wealth.

...the problem with this federal system is, those who are required to dismantle it are those who are directly benefiting from it-the incentives are incompatible.. we need to study the United Arab Emirate type of competitive federalism that gave way for Dubai and other Non oil regions to emerge!
SOLUDO.

well raised points by the man who boldly singlehandedly gingered bank consolidation, merged banks..to put a stop to unnecessary fraud from banks,to put a stop to bank liquidation,to save the common mans money from the hands of bank racketeerers.
jokes apart. this guy have raised some salient points, I think he is sceptical of the attainment of the required goals of election promises.. by PMB.. by the next four years..unless Buhari decides to use a very radical but difficult approach, that's why he is excusing himself.

Wao! This is authoritative and insightful. This should form part of working documents for a serious government. Most of Nigeria's problems are fundamental. We have a lot more work to do.we have enormous problems on our hands. How can we migrate from sharing /consumption to production. Post oil is suddenly before us unprepared.
OVER ONE MILLION YOUNG INTELLECTS WAITING....and yet we elected a75year old man that has passed productive age to rule us. I am becoming very skeptical of this change mantra. For the first time ever the system designed for sharing/consumption is in a mess.Salaries could not paid talk less of projects. Soludo is a sound economist.

Yes, for some reasons, people like to see someone that shares their interests or attributes in government—it has a feel good factor. But if occupation of such office has any personal benefits, it is largely to the occupant of the office and his friends and family.

Our recent history has shown that it hardly matters where the occupant of a particular position comes from. I am not sure how the welfare of Ota/Ogun people changed because Obasanjo was president of Nigeria, or how the man in the street of Katsina or Otuoke/Bayelsa prospered more than others simply because their son became president. The south east voted massively for ‘one of their own’ in 2011 as president, and also had Secretary to Government, Deputy Senate president, Deputy Speaker, Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of economy and a coterie of other appointments. Yet, the zone had the least capital expenditure in the five year presidency, and there is hardly any motorable federal highway in the south east. For me, this bickering for sharing of positions is an elite game for their personal rather than national considerations. What the ordinary Nigerians want are institutionalized processes to guarantee their security and prosperity. They want services and don’t care who gives it to them. Our federal cabinet is nothing but a miniature United Nations whereby each minister represents his or her state but no one represents Nigeria. At this critical crisis moment, perhaps what Nigeria needs is something akin to selecting the best 11 for our national football team: no one cares which state or zone they come from; everyone wants Nigeria to come home with the cup.

The one part that makes deep sense of the lot.

It should come handy for our NL tribalistic bigots.

My brother, I'm personally overwhelmed at the level of thinking on Nairaland! I read the comments, and felt sorry for our youths and Nigeria's future! It's disheartening!! Empty vessels trivialising everything, and not even bothering to read any thing discussing more than the shape of Nicki Minaj's ass! It's unbelievable!

Soludo's article leaves food for thought! We need real-time structural changes to be able to make any credible CHANGE!! The time for rhetoric is over, and Nigerians should wake up and smell the coffee!

He is not ready to serve full time but will render free advice on solid minerals bla bla.

It's annoying to me when I hear people talk like this. I mean, you feel you carry the solution and when an opportunity comes along to solve the problem, you look for an excuse to bail out and stand by the sideline to criticise and condemn someone else who took your fall. #notcool.

He kept saying "I don't want to talk ..." yet he kept "talking".

That has always been the stand for many of us. Just that we are in the minority and our voices are always drowned. This goes back to that devilish federal character. Then again, our politicians are specially crafted from hell. Most of them do not see beyond themselves. The moment you give the "best" man the job, he develops and insatiable appetite to accumulate personal wealth at the detriment of the entire country. The stories abound

The comments above seems to ignore the crux of the matter.
Soludo as always talks the economy as it is but haters always like vilifying him. Anyone who doesn't know that Nigeria is at a cross road right now needs to be examined. Anyone who knows and wants magic will be needing more examination and care.

This govt needs all the support it can get locally and internationally as PMB is not the president of APC but of Nigeria. We are all involved in the mess and unfortunately the victims have continued to dignify the thieves and vilify those who represent the truth.

When I read the comments after reading the interview, I had to shake my head in disbelieve!

We have a serious crisis in Nigeria if the so-called youths can make such comments after reading the article.

Too many lazy children teenagers in Nairaland.

I like that part where he gave the UAE as an example for nigeria to visit its existing constitution to enable states to develope and bake their own cake rather than share the national cake from the center(FG)...now this is what I espouse...if true federalism can be practiced then state governors would be under duress to perform for the progress of their state and its people....

Let nigeria learn to be less dependent on oil from the niger delta and explore other opportunities...buhari do this and have my support..then I would know change has really come...

Pay no mind to them. Regardless of whether the devil himself says it, 1+1 is equal 2-This is fact.
He raised serious issues. Especially with fical allocations and nomination of ministers. Also Nigeria will never grow if States keep being unproductive while waitng for Federal allocation. It seems Federal allocation is easier money to steal than to spend time, physical and mental energy in creating wealth.
Oh lest I forget, Nigeria will never grow if her youths can't discern and sieve out facts from a simple interview.
