Well, you can't blame the man (Tinubu) for trying his luck!

If he had run for VP, that would have been the death knell for APC. He would have been handing the much vilified and derided PDP/GEJ power on a platter. Even the South West would not have voted for such.
Again, a Muslim/Muslim ticket, as someone pointed out, would not have worked in Nigeria.
The only selling point APC had was GMB, Tinubu running would have rubbished all efforts. The fact is Tinubu is even more greedy than Saraki or any other politician but he knows his best bet is running things behind the scene, installing his stooges and siphoning what he can through them.

Tinubu knew the enormity of public opprobrium around him outside the SW. He knew running as VP would have been suicidal for Apc.

Religious factor hindered tinubu from securing the VP slot even BRF was a better candidate

In Nigeria position = power.

Tinubu always puts someone in position then spends their whole tenure arguing with them. I respect Tinubu because of all the godfathers he's the only one that can get his followers to listen, but trust me, if Tinubu had the trustability and popularity of Saraki he would have run for president sef. Tinubu is not trusted by his own people and hated by others, he himself can't win anything.
