By the way, I thought 'Nollywood' was the name coined after the merger of the Igbo (AGN - Actor's Guild of Nigeria) and Yoruba (ANTP) movie industries? Why is Wale Adenuga suddenly claiming Yorubas are not part of Nollywood? Is it simply because they can't stand up to the tough competition posed by Alaba market boys? |

bigfrancis21:first of all not every movie contains igbo cultural theme 2nd, you talk as if only igbo people act English spoken movies regardless the theme. .. going away from the Igbo cultural theme, there are tons of English spoken movies with yoruba theme would it be intelligent for anyone to say super story and Papa Ajasco are Yoruba drama? because it contains mostly yoruba cultural theme doesn't make it yoruba.. its simply Nigerian... until you make it into Yoruba language how many American/British movies containing Egyptian or Persian (Take prince of Persia for example) Themes are called English Persian movie? |

bigfrancis21:and how are you a standard for 150million Nigerians? at least you know him, at least you know one of his work Ghanaian stations show his work, he has a TV channel Cameroun knows super story... in fact anyone anywhere in the world that knows Nigerian television knows Wale Adenuga |
| Re: Emeka Ike Founded Nollywood In 1992 Yoruba & Hausa Not A Part Of It-wale Adenuga by bigfrancis21: 1:30pm On Jun 08, 2015 |
macof:There is no gainsaying the simple fact. The same Nollywood produces English and Igbo movies currently under the body of AGN (Actors Guild of Nigeria) aka the Igbo movie industry. ANTP is in charge of the Yoruba speaking movies. I have often seen fellow yoruba nairalanders constantly refer to English-speaking movies as Igbo movies and deride Igbos for speaking English in their movies rather than Igbo. One minute the movies are 'Ibo' movies, the next minute the movies are ' Nigerian' movies. How surprising, Wale Adenuga does not share in your all-conclusive view of Nollywood-Igbo movies as 'Nigerian' but rather sees yoruba and hausa movies as separate from Nollywood? Can you explain that? |
| Re: Emeka Ike Founded Nollywood In 1992 Yoruba & Hausa Not A Part Of It-wale Adenuga by bigfrancis21: 1:36pm On Jun 08, 2015 |
macof:Knowing super story does not mean they all necessarily know the producer. It would be fallacious to even think that. We watch tons of movies every time without barely knowing who the producer is. I am not here to argue with you about Wale Adenuga's popularity. Emeka Ike, Kunle Afolayan etc. are 10 times way more popular than him. If Wale remains popular in your tiny little world, so be it. Or perhaps, he is merely poking at a more popular figure such as Emeka Ike to gain attention for himself. |

macof: There is no doubt that the coinage of the make-believe industry in Nigeria by some revolutionary actors and stakeholders did not go down well with some who believed were the main starter of the industry but were not consulted before staying put with the name ‘Nollywood’.http://www.nigeriafilms.com/news/14414/27/bitter-war-in-nollywood-between-agn-and-antp.html |

bigfrancis21:how does this explain your tagging English spoken movies as igbo? you still haven't addressed this simple detail try understanding the various examples I gave about Prince of Persia (Persian Cultural Theme) produced and acted by Americans and Europeans and Super story produced and acted by mostly Yorubas. Am very sure nobody calls super story a yoruba drama even in the face of the yoruba theme in several seasons You don't need to quote some irrelevant stuff jst COMPREHEND |

macof:At least he's being reasonable. Why trying to force your needless self on English-Igbo movies as if Nollywood needs yoruba actors and actresses for relevance? Nollywood has proven itself self-reliant and independent of any tribe or man whatsoever by propelling itself to great heights and number 2 or 3 in the entire world. No other movie industry in Nigeria could do this until the Igbos stepped in and the game changed. Yorubas had since 1960s till today to make sway of their movie industry. What have they been able to come up with since then? What exactly? Wale Adenuga is right. Yoruba actors are not part of Nollywood. Nollywood can be likened to a company formed by someone, which happened to overtake previously established companies and has achieved worldwide success. Other smaller 'companies' could choose to merge with it or stand independent in their small market circle. Nollywood refers to the initiative and foresight taken by an individual who saw business potentials in the venture that took the Igbo movie industry to greater heights, at a time when other movie industries were barely thinking beyond mediocrity. Yoruba actors can distance themselves, Nollywood needs them not. You hardly hear Nollywood members nor actors and actresses calling out on Yoruba actors and actresses. It is always the ANTP yoruba members calling out Nollywood at every little instance. Yoruba actors and actresses are the ones desperately dying for success and attention of Nollywood, because they barely have it. Despite Wale's 'outstanding' fame as some people would have us believe, one can tell his level of frustration at not being as recognized by greater Nollywood to have degraded himself to engaging in tribalistic tirade against Nollywood. It is not surprising. Kunle Afolayan vented out his own anger previously. Now its Wale Adenuga. It seems that all major yoruba movie producers are greatly frustrated by the greater Nollywood's seeming influence and dominance everywhere. At every nook and cranny, Alaba Igbo boys will continue to serve as a reminder of the actual owners and creators of Nollywood. |

bigfrancis21:and I realized you love poking the Yoruba for fun with all this your running around the Internet (as you normally do leaving out common sense, as your world exist only in the Internet) you didn't address my posts is it right to call Prince of Persia a Persian movie because of its Persian theme? or call Super Story a Yoruba drama because of its yoruba theme? take note Super story is acted and produced by Yorubas. ..many other TV dramas too. . in fact Yoruba run the popular Television dramas do we call them Yoruba dramas due to that? answer to yourself sincerely simply get rid of this your ethnic bigotry it does you no good |

macof:Those folks you mentioned would never have gotten to where they are if not for the initiative Emeka Ike took in founding Nollywood, had they been in the Yoruba movie industry. They are the creme de la creme of yoruba movie actors and actresses. Nollywood gives equal chance and opportunity to talented non-Igbos with excellent language skills. Majority of yoruba movie actors are said to have poor English speaking skills in the first place. |
| Re: Emeka Ike Founded Nollywood In 1992 Yoruba & Hausa Not A Part Of It-wale Adenuga by bigfrancis21: 6:39pm On Jun 09, 2015 |
macof:You lack common sense. Nollywood movies are English-Igbo movies just as they are Nigerian movies and equally African movies. However, their concept of 'Nigerianess' doesn't necessarily mean they include yoruba or hausa movies. An Igbo is a Nigerian just as a Yoruba or Hausa is Nigerian, however Igbo is not Yoruba, just as Yoruba is not Hausa. It is plain common sense. |

bigfrancis21: see who says I lack common sensewhy do you keep dodging my questions? answer them are Super Story and Papa Ajasco "Nigerian" or English-Yoruba? I guess Figurine - a movie with yoruba theme is Igbo because they spoke english? Cus I know it's not Yoruba. ..not until you gimme the language same as the Igbo themed movies. .. I guess Mirror boy is Igbo? 30 days in Atlanta is Igbo? Ay must be an Igbo man to produce and act an English movie ![]() ![]() ![]() Phone swap (which I can't remember any igbo involved) must be igbo because they spoke english ![]() ![]() guy you are really dull back to ur little main argument... you just lack the understanding of literature, because it has an Igbo setting, Yoruba setting doesn't make it Igbo and yoruba respectively i must add that most movies wit igbo themes lack quality unlike when something like that is done on Yoruba, Bini or calabar (twins of the rain forest comes to mind - this movie's lead roles were even acted by Yorubas and directed by an Edo man) keep living in ur tiny world of "the snake in the palace" sequel to "royal reptiles" ![]() |

macof:You shamefully lack common sense and common reasoning. Your line of reasoning is appalling. Nollywood movies are partly Igbo because English is spoken but because of the culture portrayed, actors, Igbo language words used here and there and equally English because of the English language spoken in it. I have commonly referred to them as English-Igbo to accommodate the English language spoken and Igbo culture portrayed. Is this so hard for you to comprehend? Papa Ajasco is a Nigerian TV show and can as well be regarded as Yoruba because of its tilt towards Yoruba culture, though it attempts to be neutral. Your lack of preference for Igbo movies makes no meaning at all. Who cares about what you think anyway. What you think is insignificant. Millions of viewers all over the world LOVE Nigerian-Igbo movies, and the consumer market is outstanding and awesome. Yoruba movie producers struggle to make profits from their movies that they have resorted to pirating every single famous foreign movie possible from Bollywood and Hollywood just to manage to stay in business. And some people would be hailing this as 'creativity'. ![]() There is piracy everywhere. There is piracy in Hollywood, there is piracy in Bollywood and what have you. Piracy is common and thrives in rich movie industries where there is huge money to be made from pirating movies. Hollywood spends huge sums of money each year to fight piracy within its industry. Movies that are commonly referred to as 'cinema dubbing' are pirated movies by individuals that go to cinemas to record yet-to-be-released movies and release ahead of time, to make their own share of money. You wouldn't find piracy in tiny little industries where there is stagnant growth and no money to be made from it. Who would make money from pirating Yoruba movies anyway? Ologun Eru? Ojo? Those kind of movies?? What is the gain to it? Nollywood is where the money is, and piracy is expected. bigfrancis21: you just try so hard wit ur insults but really you are the one showcasing lack of common senseI always know you never accept correction but that doesn't mean I allow such gross fallacies what igbo language words? you call 1 igbo word in every 100 words a sign of it being an igbo movie ....guy your mumu no get part twoso any movie wit "abi" "oga" must be an English-Yoruba movie ![]() there was this movie with Ngozi Ezeonu and Patience where they chanted "Iya Iya" wow I never knew that was an English-Yoruba movie Mr man call certain movies (wit igbo theme) English-Igbo as u like that's not my business. ..but saying Nollywood is Igbo property is as foolish as saying Igbos own Nigeria cus not all movies have igbo themes and 2nd non igbos have put a lot into the industry to make it what it is (and as a Movie fanatic, I can say it still needs improvement, especially when talking igbo culture - all the culture we see are harsh conditions on widows, nothing deep and beautiful about the Igbo culture portrayed in the movies) Nigerian Igbo movies ? the only one I know is Nkoli Nwa Nsukka. .nice movie tho but please don't say that nonsense about people loving Igbo movies again. ..how many Igbo movies even exist? The bold is a complete lie...you have a habit of pushing in bits of lies in ur posts when you have nothing to say While your igbo folks do all the pirating u are here commending them (Nice one, maybe you are into the business) ..when the AGN had cried out to GEJ on this matter since they have no idea what to do on their part |
