Though tokaka raised a good question (what next after the demand has been met?). My proposal is that we nominate from among ourselves some people that will be tasked to probe into the earnings of Federal legislators, come up with a proposal for a REAL cut that is commensurate with their job (not just "salary cut"wink and as a group we send it to the NASS for adoption (of course they won't adopt it). We follow it up with a protest! Calling for their step-down or adoption of the proposal.

#A proposal though
Twitter is a better platform for this. Omojuwa, Ogundamisi, Ogunlesi and a host of others can coordinate this well. Tweet them with your idea if you like.

I don't like you? You must be funny really to equate not liking some of your ways (inconsistencies, if you like) to not liking you.

To say that one is ashamed of Ben Murray Bruce is an understatement given what he promised before they were sworn in. His statements on this allowance thing are very disheartening and hope-killing. On the other hand (and surprisingly), Dino has remained consistent.

I have always said it that it is pure IDIOCY for anyone to blindly side with any politician IF he is not directly benefitting from his/her largesse. The only thing we stand to gain from the politicians as a people is through good governance they provide. Once they fail in that, we will be stuupid to support them.
True that bro, true that!!!. They only thing these politicians owe us to delivering on election promises.... Dino still remains true as you said but Ben Bruce fall my hand, but I wasn't surprise anyway. Money can make a man sell even his own mother! Especially in a country like Naija!.

. . . . . . . . . . .how long can you hold such a protest in the raining season? . . . . . . . . . . .at what point do you envisage that people will break and go back home? . . . . . . . . . . . .I repeat, start with your individual representatives, that way you will force them to talk and say where they stand (instead of hiding behind a collective decision) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . it is high time one of these assembly members is made a scape goat using the recall power . . . . . . . . . . . .if 109 and 360+ are faced with a recall, what are the chances of not catching one fish?
Sorry to ask but do you live in Nigeria presently?

Most of these reps are no longer visible the moment they win elections. Some of them though have constituency office but they hardly go there. How do you then get to see or meet them? Besides, many of the electorates are so ignorant, docile and naïve that they prefer the peanuts they're given by these "thieves" to involving in a meeting to discuss issues like this one.

Nigerian politics has not evolved to the level you're talking brother.

Good move here..I'm in!!!

I suggest we create a BBM forum for communication of time and venue for Lagos state. Here is ma own pin:2639C30E !!!
well, the venue for the protest is Alausa but I did proposed a meeting point @ Ojota (@9am) then together we walk to Alausa to occupy there.

joseph1832:
Okay. What's the distance from Ojota to Alausa? I will truly hate for us to disrupt traffic flow with our march as such a thing can attract police attention and they with their stupidity may come and disband us saying we didn't obtain 'police permit or report' or whatever its called for the march!.
I believe its obviously stated! You rally a crowd to show your displeasure over matters that affects you negatively!.
Yes you are right!. When it comes to money and punny! They tend to think alike. Imagine how Ben Bruce before being sworn in was raining fire and brimstone only for him to come here and start saying NASS members are one and collective bla bla bla!.
MzMyColi, my twitter handle is @joseph1832ng
As long as I am concerned the so-called police permit is illegal. There is a supreme court judgement affirming that. The walk will be managed so as not to disrupt flow of traffic. The walk will also create attention and cause some other people to join. Ojota isn't too far from Alausa. As long as the protest isn't violent and well managed, we are good to go. People with media contact can help out. When we agree on a position, I will broadcast to my bbm and WA contact. We can also create twitter awareness

. . . . . . . . . . .that's why I said 'educate the constituents' . . . . . . . . . .on another point, with the power of the social media, you can actually practice the scapegoat theory effectively . . . . . . . . . . . . . .single out one senator that has been vocal (in support of the wardrobe bounty), make him the face of the bounty and have his constituents initiate the recall process while at the same time make him be the discuss on the social media . . . . . . . . . . . .you will be surprised how quick his opponents will jump at the opportunity and at how things will naturally fall in place . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Do you know the resources involved?... will you provide those logistics?

Do you have luxury of time?

Do you know the process involved in the recall of representatives?

Do you know how herculean in nature such process is in reality?

A very good idea, but Please protesting on a Saturday might not really work it's better on a Monday or any other day of the week, we can also spread the idea round and I believe with very little effort we can get a lot of support. Someone also mooted this idea on rainbow fm this morning, I have read in this thread that Bar. Ubani did the same thing on another radio station, a friend also called me this morning to discuss the possibility of a protest, we just need to spread the word around and not limit it to nairaland ot twitter.
Re: NASS N9 Billion Allowance: A Proposal ( Call) For Civil Disobedience by Nobody: 11:36am On Jun 17, 2015
I am very much concerned about this and I have tweeted @Omojuwa and ors. We did propose meeting @Ojota by 9am then marching down to Alausa from there. I don't know if any has dissenting view. If no dissenting view, we should start creating awareness on nairaland, fb, twitter, bbm and whatsapp.

@Lagosians are always at the center of any agitation for the common good of all, we can't afford to fail this time around

hmmm
Mynd44:
You fail to see how deep this is.

Each senator makes 30million per month in allowances
And earn about 2.4 million basic pay

What they will offer is to cut their salary by 50% which means their basic will be 1.2 but leave the allowance of 30 million.

You think all these was not looked at when the choice of senate president was being looked at? Y'all chose something else and now we have to start fighting

Better still, can't we petition the body responsible for drafting NASS salary? I believe the legislators will say they are not the ones fixing their salary and renumerations...
1)Bureaucracy in government when you write petition...

2)This money is legal and can't be stopped with the drop of petition by you...

3)It is only by subtle violence (peaceful protest) that immediate result can be achieved...
