Why Do Developers(especially Nigerians) Prefer To Develop For Playstore by FincoApps(m): 11:35am On Jun 18, 2015
I've been wondering why people that are talented enough to develop rich apps waste their ability, time and money to develop for Playstore. Please I need a reasonable explanation

looks like the kind of question that ll reveal new insights, but op, how do you mean? would u rather they developed for apple...the web... or not publish their android apps on Google play store after production?

I would suggest developing for either BlackBerry World or Appstore, but I'm not sure about Appstore, however BlackBerry World is great for developers.

I know you are talking about developing for Blackberry, When I first published an app two years ago on the Playstore I got 1000+ downloads in a week, On Apple i go twice the downloads.
For Blackberry, the two major pluses are:

1. Super stable OS. If you make use of the recommended best practices, you benefit greatly from RIM's solid JVM implementation and OS layer.
2. HUGE user base. Especially if your app is free (or on a freemium model) you have the potential to really benefit from a large user base that's hungry for interesting apps.

If you're new to BlackBerry you should expect 2-3 months of just becoming familiar with developing on BlackBerry and overcoming some of the initial hurdles.

The huge gap between the touch devices users (eg: Storm, now Torch...) and the trackball devices users (leading by far) was and is still a huge problem. Particularly when it's time to design a convenient UI and UX that will suite both environment.

Speaking of code, you need to know your Java. The learning curve and the availability of relevant documentations on the SDK is also lacking compared to Apple's iOS, or Android OS.

That's why you don't see much graphic designers with minor coding experience making the leap to BlackBerry Apps development as opposed to iOS and Android.

I would prefer building for Blackberry Smartphones (OS 10x).
Re: Why Do Developers(especially Nigerians) Prefer To Develop For Playstore by FincoApps(m): 1:29pm On Jun 18, 2015
Yes I agree with you, BlackBerry Java is really, really difficult to learn and extremely difficult to design UI on. But Its not impossible. There's even an Advanced UI library that was created by BlackBerry. And cascades UI framework for BB10 is so lovely.

When it comes to downloads, I don't know how you got 1000+ in a week. But I designed my first app for BlackBerry World and it got 400 downloads everyday.(I didn't promote this app in anyway at all). I designed the same app on Playstore and first of all it was so difficult to find my own app even if I type the exact phrase of the app. The annoying thing is Apps that has nothing to do with that phrase showed up first. This never happens on BlackBerry World. And till now that app doesn't have up to 800 total downloads (this app is about a year old). Ever since then, I really disliked Playstore.

I have also seen some apps made by developers here on Playstore, they are nice, but don't get downloads. I can only imagine if it was on BlackBerry World. Finally, I don't know about Playstore but for BlackBerry World, if you send them a detailed email telling them you want your app to be featured in the store. They do listen. 2 of my apps has been featured before and I got about 2 - 4 thousand downloads everyday.

I would suggest BlackBerry World for upcoming developers.

Android and iOS is where development currently is at its strongest. Developing for BlackBerry OS is a waste of time

This is a very interesting thread which we will benefit from. I have only develop for android so my points are based on want I have experienced.

When I started developing for android, I realized that there is business side of app development than just to write app and hoping for downloads.

Google Play store is very competitive, many companies and indie developers use so much money to promote and buy downloads for their apps so that they will rank high with their targeted keywords.

Some developers use spam and bot to rank their app. So there are many things going on in Play Store.

It is very difficult to rank an app without money for promotion or knowledge of ASO (App Store Optimization) in Google Play Store

It is easy to development simple apps in android but making money from your android app is another story.

Until you understand the secret of making apps that make money in Google Store, it will amount to waste of time and money unless you are doing it for hobby.

For Blackberry, I feel that there is no competition in their Store and it is easy for apps to get downloads.

Why I have not develop for Blackberry is that I don't know if their OS will stand the test of time. Recently I heard that Blackberry is considering using android in some of their upcoming new release.

My question to @thewebcraft and @FincoApps and other Blackberry developers here

1. Which ad network do you use in your apps?

2. Does ad pay well in Blackberry app than in Android app?

3. Does your app focus on Nigeria users or general?

The obvious explanation is that the Android OS is increasing in popularity. As a developer, you want your app to be used by a lot of people. so naturally, it makes sense to develop for a platform where a lot of people are moving to or already are.

Play store gets lots of downloads from users everyday. I have seen some apps that doesn't even work well or offer very limited features get up to 100,000 downloads. If your app doesn't get discovered, either you didn't promote it well or it isn't as useful as you think it is.

I developed for Blackberry once. *thinks about it* *shivers*

To those that say "The market is more in Playstore" or "BlackBerry is dead". It's really obvious you guys have never put an app on BlackBerry World. And probably doesn't even have the first idea of how Playstore is grin. Anyway, all I can say is: most of the new developers, I'm pretty sure a BlackBerry developer earns more than you earn from my apps on BlackBerry World without a dollar of promotion.
Re: Why Do Developers(especially Nigerians) Prefer To Develop For Playstore by FincoApps(m): 6:44pm On Jun 18, 2015
I don't really know Playstore's search algorithm, but I know its really f*cked up. However BlackBerry revealed that the search algorithm takes the name as precedence, followed by the short description, followed by the largest phrase of your defined keywords.... and down like that. It makes search extremely effective. And also makes developers know how to target their audience.

@FincoApps

A Blackberry app with 100,000 downloads and 700 - 1000 daily downloads. How much in rough estimation do you think it will make?
Re: Why Do Developers(especially Nigerians) Prefer To Develop For Playstore by FincoApps(m): 10:13pm On Jun 18, 2015
First of all, if its like 700 downloads per day and u put a price tag on it, it could drop to 50-100 (People are cheap) grin. But at the end of the month, as long as your earnings is more than $50, you get your 70% in your paypal. That could be like $1,500 per month
