Wole Soyinka's quote about Malcolm X:

Malcolm X remains unquestionably one of the most intriguing minds in liberation history anywhere. As one who did meet and interact with him on his own currently embattled terrain, Nigeria, I cannot help speculating what directions its contents may have taken, given the convulsions within, and attributable to, a religion that worked such profound transformations in his personal odyssey. From whichever perspective, this is an invaluable addition to the library of socio-political thinkers—and seekers after a just world order.

Oh please, who hasn't been through a lot of obstacles in life? I'm not even judging him cos it comes with the territory and certain things will always be with you for a lifetime, when you're from a certain place - product of ya environment. However, when you start making him look like a saint, while trying to portray the next man from similar background in bad light - that's what I've got a problem with.

Lmao @ Mike Tyson's invincibility. He wasn't invincible when the bum, Buster Douglas, knocked his arse out cold, and put him to sleep. He wasn't invincible when he turned into a cannibal and bit off Holyfield's ear. And he sure wasn't invincible when Lennox Lewis put him to sleep. I'm a fan of some of Tyson's exploit in the ring - but the guy is/was an obnoxious coon.

How about tell me who isn't a puppet cos you call everyone a puppet? I need names.

I wasn't making him look like a saint I was simply acknowledging his achievements in the ring, but you seem to be obsessed with his life outside the ring. I hope you know everyone has their Achilles heel, his just happens to be women, drugs and alcohol and I can name several other high profile athletes who are even worse than him when it comes to that, at least he takes care of his children.

His record speaks for itself 58 fights, 50 wins, 44 by knockout, 6 losses.
The fact that he lost 6 fights out of 58 hardly makes him a loser, it makes him a human being.
No-one is immune from failure in life, therefore to ridicule a man simply because he lost to a man you describe as a bum shows a lack of maturity on your part.

As I've said previously Tyson's Achilles heel is his mind, he was unable to conquer a lot of negative emotions that were eating him up after Cus Damato's death as a result he couldn't stay focused that's the reason why he lost to Douglas. By the time he fought Lewis and Holyfield his mental state had declined even further. Neither Holyfield nor Lewis could have withstood Tyson in his prime.

I had the premonition,

he didn't act as if he was interested when he was being nominated.

He was busy commissioning Oduduwa drum with Aregberascal.

Fighting Patience Jonathan when he was supposed to be writing poetry

Reading books with Amaechi while he was supposed to be writing

The list goes on

Lol. What "white Chieftaincy" title?

Still mad he won Nobel Prize for Literature and ya man never won it?

You can't change history and his body of work speak for itself.
when some people talk I just laugh...most of the folks here are not in Literary Studies as a discipline. If you are going to pick those 1st generation writers, Achebe is still far behind, though a good writer but not in the class of Wole, You will still pick the likes of Ngugi Wa Thiongo before him.

Like I told you, I've got no problem whatsoever with Mike Tyson - I grew up as a fan and I'm still a fan. However, what I've got a problem with is the fact that you keep slandering the name of a Mayweather, who has been able to do what no other black athlete/sports man, has ever been able to do - by creating wealth with his own company/name/brand - and cutting off white/Jewish leeches, who always rip off black athletes by giving them crumbs for their sweat, while keeping most of the money. And the fact that you used Mike Tyson, a guy who wasn't a saint and someone any black athlete trying to making money off his sweat should never emulate, as poster child for everything good - is problematic. Especially when Tyson is a mirror (if not worse) of everything bad about Mayweather - but he lacks the business and marketing genius of a Mayweather.

Nah, Tyson dodged Lennox Lewis for years, till he was dead broke and needed money. And Buster Douglas was a bum but that didn't stop him from knocking Mike Tyson the fvck out. grin

Non western African puppets:

Robert Mugabe
the late Thomas Sankara
the late Patrice Lumumba
the late Kwame Nkrumah
the late Muammar Qadaffi

I also have a lot of respect for Dr Chinweizu Ibekwe (a Nigerian historian) I'm sure there are also a few other pan Africanist Africans who im not aware of.

My solutions have always hinged on the need for black Africa to sever all political and economic links with Europe and the US and forge stronger economic ties with the BRICS nations, at an individual level I have always advocated that we continue to educate ourselves about our own history as well as the history of our oppressors in order to rid ourselves of our self hatred.

Can you please name just one of his works in which he criticises western powers, i am aware of the fact that he has had major conflict with successive Nigerian regimes but he always manages to stop short of criticising their puppet masters - the western powers.

The truth of the matter is that Soyinka will never bite the hand that feeds him, his main source of income comes from his various university appointments abroad, that's why he was even allowed to be in the running for this s.tupid oxford post which confers nothing of value on the average Nigerian.

I just referred you to his Nobel speech which you can easily google, if that isn't enough grab a copy of the deaths and the kings horseman.
Note though that most of his work are satires which some people fail to understand.
Lastly , criticizing western powers is meaningless if it achieved nothing so it is not a criteria for being the most patriotic citizen. Zimbabwe's Mugabe easily come to mind.
A wise general chooses his battles carefully.

Meanwhile Prof soyinka should take break and have a good rest..At 81 he should be on vacation chilling off.

First: I am a rapper and in the rap game, you don't spell words the way others do.
Dats why you see me spell nourishment as nurishement.
You can see for yourself here>>www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/immortaltechnique/leavingthepast.html

Secondly: the bias spelt has "biase" is a clear case of typo, but since you don't have logically base for your argument.
You decided to pick on unecesarry things, just to boost your depleted ego..SMH

Thirdly: being young or old doesn't make you productive.
It is all about individual commitment.
so your assertion on his persona,to handle such a delicate position as poetry which shouldn't be given to young peeps in the first place.
Is viod.

Even God himself, new the importance of maturity.
That's why you hear him say.
He work with his 24 elder's.did you hear him say youths?.

So stop blabbing about being youths lyk the future depend on it,bcs they are the most undependent stage.

What about all his works about apartheid South Africa? Heck, he was one of the most vocal critics of Mandela's reconciliation programme cos he believed there's no way it will right the wrongs of the past.

The fact that he focuses more on his country these days than chasing the elephant in the room doesn't mean he's a puppet. It's better to pick a battle you can win than be a lone ranger barking at Nephilim and fighting a lost cause. And are Nigerian leaders and people not Nigeria's worst enemies?

For a man of his status to practise African religion alone, is enough to give him props for being supremely African and anti-western.

Who's Dr Chinweizu Ibekwe? I don't know the guy. Wole Soyinka is similar to W.E.B DuBois and you can't compare him to some any guy who just sits there and rant everyday.
