Acidosis:
Here in Akute, the useless bridge linking Ojodu Lagos to Estate/Alagbole/Akute, Ogun state is in deep mess.

Governor Amosun is a monumental failure. APC Governors are the most wicked and hypocritical politicians in the world. I could not believe my eye when I saw a canoe on a so called major road in Ogun, near Lagos.

These guys are strict about their tax but ideal and docile when it comes to WORK. Just yesterday a woman who sells stuffs like indomie, sachet water, cray fish, salt, pepper and the likes was harassed because she's unable to pay Amosun's N8000 tax! The whole goods in her shop isn't worth N50,000, yet Amosun's touts won't stop these idiocy.

The CAP wearing governor should come to the rescue of Ogun state dwellers, particularly those living in the aforementioned places. This man sends his touts to collect tax from the highly populated and fast developing neighborhoods of Lagos only to pour the returns in Abeokuta and some ideal villages in Ogun.

@Amosun, a woman broke her leg last week saturday while moving on one of your useless and idle projects. I couldn't breath on seeing shattered legs in the dungeon you called road.

May God reward you in bad measures. You all will pay for your evils including the mad pilot we call governor in Kogi.

A typical naija person's way - throwing dirts any and everywhere and we expect miracle to happen when rain falls.
Once, i was caught up in the rain and had to look for a safe place to put up till the rain stopped. I saw a locked shop and stayed in the open space in front, while there, a girl and her brother just busied themselves, emptying all the dirts they had stored over time into the gutter which was already full with water and dirts coming from wherever - other people clearly did the same. They made sure they emptied everything...Now you can imagine, these are the same people that will blame the government first when the gutter gets blocked and starts overflowing.

we Humans cannot stop the rains from falling. These are natural events, but we can do something to prevent them from having great impact.

our Government are not trying at all because they are lot of step they can take to control flooding and make flow of water easy.

I have seen countries where rain fall constantly but there is a good drainage system and underground well, once the rain stops within 1-2 hours everywhere is dried up.

Blame our Government.

Constant flooding in texas is understandable, due to low population density couple with the sheer size of the state. So, it doesn't make sense to invest in a proper drainage system because flooding doesn't impact the economy nor affect people enough to warrant such an investment- more like an acceptable nuisance.
Lagos on the other hand is more like manhattan or London. The cumulative, economic and social effect of flooding in Lagos is enormous. So I fail to see why proper drainage systems hasn't been installed in key areas at least.

For once I must disagree with you. There are private companies in Lagos who recycle PET bottles and pure water sachets. Fashola's "able" government and its parastatals were too busy wasting their time and looking for roadblocks to mount in their way. The pure water recycling plant was meant to produce waste bags (Fashola gave the contract to his relative, who started importing the waste bags and branding them). Yet when Fashola and his cohorts want to do publicity, they will go to the plant, snap photos, call journalists and give one fantastic story (as if it was working at full capacity).

I have so much proof on this, as I was working for Lagos state at that time. I couldn't believe the nonsense I saw and the elephant projects for waste executed by Fashola, who couldn't be bothered to utilise the expensive Waste Management facilities he built at Oshodi and Sura. They worked at less than 30% capacity. The PET bottle company, LASG used to frustrate them like mad and call for meetings in which nothing sensible will be resolved. They have a plant at Amuwo Odofin.

I blame LASG 70% for this mess and flooding. If they do their part and not eye service, they can effectively tackle Lagosians dumping waste everywhere. After all, wasn't it less than 10 years ago they achieved at least 60% compliance with seatbelt wearing in vehicles?

White elephant projects everywhere leaving out what matters, the very essential project is always neglected. Other countries are constructing underground drainages so that even when people litter, floods rarely occur.

Yet, some nigggahs on this thread are trying to defend a government that constructs open gutters and begs citizens not to throw stuff in.

Daft murrafuckers, I'm telling you.
Re: Lagos Flood And What It Caused (photos) by Laredojohn(m): 6:08am On Jun 21, 2015
This flood is seemingly mostly caused by bad drainage. The State Government should urgently work on drainage systems as this might get worse, with time.

SirStevoe:
Wow! Even Ikeja isn't spared. Lol shocked
In actual sense, the flood wasn't caused by the Lagos rains, but by blocked/insufficient drainage channels. These drainages did not block themselves, they were blocked by human beings. People who have poor values, who in turn have no value for environment and others. These set of people are the ones who turn these drainages to their refuse grounds and dump all sorts there.
Then when events such as these occur, government is blamed?!
This is not to absolve the government of blame, but if each one of us play our respective roles and citizens become law abiding, things will definitely move forward and the change we seek becomes clearly visible.
Government and people need to work hand in hand, Nation building isn't a job for either party but for both, individually and collectively.

I Don taya for this nonsense.

Change!!! Eko Oni Bake O!!!

-Sir Stevoe
You can't blame the government. The people are their own problems. They litter every where 50% of all those lacasera bottles end up in the drainage.

And if you tell them not to litter they could almost slap you most especially people in the market, they'll ask you are you in Yankee?. Only about 5% of them will say sorry and pickup.

Until we Nigerians start disposing dirts into the proper channels, this flood when there's a rain won't stop even if they build all the best drainage system. We need to change our attitude towards disposal of dirts. The government should set up a task force to see to that.

themodernman:
Oga lomomike sorry for disturbing again oh.

So what do you think is d fate of these vehicles dat are almost drowning and is there a preventive measure against ds?
bro, first thing we should know, Lagos is a Low ground area so buildings should be built following planning ordinance. Drainages should be built and the existing drainages shouldn't be blocked. There are always natural drainage pattern for rain water and other sources of mass water to follow their natural courses and if these natural drainage paths are obstructed, it is a disaster. These things I've said are meant for the planning and waste management authority to enforce folks should be enlightened and also those on flood paths or flood plains should be evacuated in planning, urban settlement, flood liable areas, flood zones, rocky areas and difficult terrains are kept aside for High income earners/low density zones (rich men) are only reserved for them to work on their environment in a manner that doesn't pose risk to the environment, lives and properties, the flood prone areas can be converted to agricultural land use areas for water loving crops such as swamp rice, sugar canes plantations et al.

As for the cars, I see electrical problem coming up soon. ECU and other components getting fried, possibly erratic offensive behaviour from electrical components, electrical fires emanating from breached or wet electrical components, those who claim to be brave and drive thru these deep water risk hydro locking (a situation where by water is sucked into an engine cylinder, since engine relies on compression and water can't be compressed, the resultant effect is a cracked or broken engine thus total destruction of engine), wastage of money due to frequent visit to mechanic and further destruction of flooded vehicles due to abuse meted by kazeems, which could cause the owner to sell his/her vehicle ridiculously cheap (flood salvage).

Side Note: do you know empty bottles could be filled up with sand and used in building construction as an alternative to bricks/blocks which are then plastered?

Madamkilljoy:
I beg to disagree with the above mentioned, Sir Steve. I'll heap most of the blame on the doorstep of the government. They have tried but they should try harder. What would you say of the Apapa/Oshodi expressway? Whenever it rains, you know what happens. Tax payers money shouldn't be used for the beautification of the city only, rather it should be channeled to solving this monster called flood. However, a little portion of the blame would go to some pedestrians who love to litter the environment. Nevertheless, I think a law should be passed banning people from dropping filths on the road.
the apapa oshodi express way u r tlkin about has its own drainage system because d drainage system channels to d canal @ orile side and on lik dat bt some animals hv built houses close to d canal and also d hip of refuse dere is jst unbearable. So I dnt blame d govt dat much. If u wuld recall,d lasu igando road, wen fashola came to inspect d road,he saw dat dere was no drainage system in place,he ordered dem to create a drainage system and dey did. So we cnt really blame d govt bt some pple wu refuse to hv sense by dumping refuse anywhere dey like. Even some mofos on nairaland do practice d same fin bt dey open deir stinking mouth to speak bullshit. Go bck to ur villa. I Bliv dey knw demselves. Awon omo south evil
